Go look at my lunar moth! I didn't know what it was called until I posted it and of course my rosity professors let me know! This is only the second time I have seen this moth. Excellent background information. That truly adds to the photo. I didn't have that obviously. Excellent shot!

Having been an insect collector since I was very young (pre-teenager), this species had eluded me since they are not in these parts of the US. However, because of loss of habitat, environmental poisons, I no longer collect professionally. I now enjoy the remaining fragile lives of any insect. Organic control is the answer, not chemical spraying. One just has to watch nature and learn and help her along the right path. One answer I can share for those with gardens and just think, it not only helps another species, it brings with it hours of pleasure. Bird feeders will attract a variety of birds from tiny to medium large. If you have a vegetable garden then planting certain flowers also keeps the bugs away. Sorry, I seem to have jumped off the track and forgot to comment on the photograph Kort. Yet I will add two more thoughts. Thank you for sharing this photograph as it represents a moment witnessed by a very few and a little bit of hidden humor, for as you said, these moths romantic interlude of four hours certain lasts longer than most humans by . . . well, will leave that one blank. Don't want to shame the over worked species of humans.

Nice resolutions! We should all do the same (stop eating when adult). Then we would have a chance to save our dying world. I propose to replace food by whisky...
