Description
I was in London last weekend and there was an excersise going on for the festivities next weekend. Had a chance to shoot some of the famous guards in action and my eyes were drawn to the details (hurray for zoomlenses).
They are called the Queen's Guard. They consists of foot guards in full-dress uniform of red tunics and 18-inch-tall hats called busbies made of real bearskin
from Canadian brown bears.
Traditionally they are not allowed to move. Typically, a Guardsman spends two hours on duty and four off. He is not expected to stand still for any more than ten minutes at a time. Every so often, he will march up and down in front of his sentry box, rather like a policeman "walking the beat".

And for those of you not going to London to see this show, Ottawa puts on a nice display all summer for the tourists, etc. Essentially the same uniforms and protocol, etc. Worth a stop by if you happen to be in the area.
