Description
This place is Ephesus (Efes) in Turkey, 12 miles north of Kusadasi, a city opposite the Greek island of Samos. Ephesus goes back to the end of the Bronze Age, about 1,200 years BC. It was occupied by the Persians, the Greeks and the Romans. It used to be an important harbour town but now lies 5 miles inland.
