Description

Thanks for viewing !! :o) -- Volucella bombylans (var. plumata). Volucella hoverflies are commensals in the nests of social bees and wasps. The larvae can be found, sometimes in large numbers, in the nests after the host colony has finished. The plumata form of this species is an extremely good bumblebee mimic. It is the size and shape of a worker Bombus lucorum or Bombus hortorum, and its behaviour resembles a foraging bumblebee. The other forms are much less convincing. Hope you like & have a great tuesday !! :o) P.S. my apologies for not commenting so much the last few days. I have some health issues... Nothing too serious though but the dentist and the doctor have me going in circles... the dentist sends me to the doctor and then the doctor sends me back to the dentist *sigh* Ah well... :o) - Thanks for all your wonderful comments on my last upload, "The Norfolk Hawker" !! -- Many thanks, Jeroen
