Description

Wilton windmill was built in 1821 as a five floor brick tower mill with round house. The need for a windmill was felt because the Kennet and Avon Canal had canalised the waters of the River Bedwyn thereby taking away the power needed to drive several water mills in the vicinity of Bedwyn. At one time there were over 400 such mills in the county before this time and now this is the last one here or in any of the surrounding counties. Thanks for taking time to look and any comments you care to make

What a gorgeous structure. Love the catwalk and brickwork. Things like that around here would be covered in moss. Thanks for presenting it.

I'm glad they have come to their senses and preserve at least one! I do fancy the design of the windmill []/;^)
