it looks good so far, i would make sure the background image matches the frame of the render, secondly i would tweak the guys pose a little, twist the torso a little in the direction of the arm that is going back, next try to get the weapon into the hand of the guy, try posing it a little or do your best. also i would inject some expressions into the face, to make him look angry, i've done blank face poses forever, now i am experimenting with facial expressions, and it is making a world of difference. Besides all that, it looks like it's on it's way to becoming an awsome pic, keep up the good work.

You are right that expression is critical. I usually use mild ones, but this one will have more of a forceful one when I go back to doing more. I've got a load of magnets to add as well, and will probably move the background about (and frame the picture better, get them into the floor plane, etc.). Really appreciate the comments, as they are spot on. I'll eventually substitute in the finished render for this rough draft and that way people will see how advice like yours helped me put the final thing together. Thanks!

I agree with cryptic, he looks bored. But I love the poses! This has a very nice dyanmic tension, the viewer brace for the inevitable clash! Now on to the next version! ;)
