Description

The Passo Sella side of the magnificent Sassolungo. ^^/\^^ I drove up to my long awaited visit to the Dolomites, over the Pordoi Pass and into thick cloud and persistant rain. Not amused. I only had two nights and the rain looked set to stay. The plan the next day was to climb the "Michell Stroble", a 3B Via Ferrata, it was was cancelled. Not amused. Instead, we toured the WW1 tunnels above Passo Falzarego which was great, but not what I came for. Only on my last morning did the weather start to break. Without any firm plan, I drove back up to the Pordoi Pass...it was in thick cloud...not amused. Then after about half an hour, the whiteness suddenly cleared in the distance to reveal the three jagged tops of Sassolungo being lit up by the morning sun. I was back in the car quick style and drove like a loopy up to the Passo Sella and went up to the refuge and down the other side for some outstanding scenes, before huge banks of cloud rushed up the valley. This shot looks like a nice summers day, but believe me, there were huge thunderous clouds building behind me. I had to make my way down quick, snapping like mad all the way, and I got back to the car just as a huge hailstone storm started. Nice to be back though....I wonder whats new here on RR?

Most Impressive Shot. What a lucky break that the clouds cleared up just enought for this capture. Thank you for going back up there to capture this beautiful and outstanding picture. Love it! Aloha

Wow!!! What a cool shot, with perfect POV. Those rocks look kinda surreal, looks like a computer generated scene in a way. Excellent! Have a great day #:o)
