Description


As promised a little history on the Jupiter Lighthouse ...located in the northen part of Palm Beach County, Fl. ...built in 1860...115 ft tall...uses a Fresnel lens ...the lighthouse went unlit during the civil war, because the Confederates took out and hid the lens...relit in 1866. ...light became electrified in 1928, but the hurricane of 1928 knocked out electricity so oil lamps were used until power was restored. ...1973registered as an historical place ...1999 renovated...during renovation it was discovered that it was built on an indian mound that dated back to 700AD. ...the lighthouse is in operation today and open to visitors.
