Description

Out in my yard the other day, I found this pretty little caterpillar with perfect fae foot-prints going up his back. I thought of a mischievous faerie wearing blue suede shoes. Running to grab my camera, my fiance came up to where I'd set the leaf on a step. He called behind me, "I'm stepping on him!" ACK! I pleaded for him to give a reprieve ...at least until I could shoot him. lol You see, he is known as a forest-tent caterpillar and they can do much damage to the foliage of a tree. I quickly set up my tripod and snapped him from several different angles. I liked this one the best although, without any postwork other than the frame, I am not happy with the messiness of the leaf he is on. hehehe Alas, once his 15 minutes of celebrity were over, he went to that big Catepillar Heaven in the sky. *sigh* It was a sad moment but I went inside, didn't watch and went right to uploading my pictures. I do Love the trees. :-) (((Hugs))) and thank you to all who commented on my last picture. I hope you all enjoyed the first day of summer and have a wonderful weekend. ~*~maggie~*~

Mags this is magnificent. It's such a beautiful shot, and I love the leaf. It's not messy at all but sets of the caterpillar perfectly. Excellent image!!!!!! Thinks though that the fae should have sprinkled him with some fae dust to rid him of the need to eat trees. :))))

The story behind it is every bit as intersting as the beauty in the little guy.Shame they have to eat so much.

Interesting .. and too bad this bug's natural behavior made it necessary to eradicate him from his world so quickly.. awhhh... I love the trees too well to care, even. ;)

Nice background story. I can understand why it's not among your favourite animals. Beautiful though!

I like caterpillars almost as much as the end result of butterflies, but they do a lot of damage especially to gardens. super shot

The colors are wonderful, too bad he had to go to the great caterpillar place up above! As for the leaf, it makes for a natual image, but either by cloning or the heal brush in photoshop it is an easy job to cleanup. In this case I think it works the way it is. Love the story too! Lovely image!
