Description
The hovering mirror ball had been there when he'd found this house. No one could tell him where it had come from or even what it was. Except for a constant low (and strangely pleasant) hum, it appeared to do nothing at all but hover a few feet off the library floor.

Highly imaginative along with effective realization. There are so many additional twistings of reality that could be done with this concept: the reflection shows a different age; or it's not mirror reversed; or the background in the reflection differs from the view outside the house ... yes, so very many to bend and twist 'reality'.
