Description

Last summer I stayed in a Bed and Breakfast that had a small painting on the wall that made a real impact on me with it's colours and lighting. I thought I'd try and do something like it. My architectural modelling is negligable so I appreciate the fantastic free models - I hope that the artists who built these models will be pleased to see their creations used in this way. For me the challenge in this image was to learn more about lighting, something I'm very behind on in my Bryce images. The oddest thing is the way an image can have such a life of it's own. This ended up being nothing like the original painting. I intended to put in the busy street, the people walking to and fro etc. Yet when I put in the buildings and lit them to my taste I found I had a middle of the night scene, the kind of night time in a city I love where everyone else has gone to bed and there is just the peace and beauty of old architecture all around me. I made the cobbles by creating a seamless greyscale map in Photoshop. The idea of how to do this using 'Inner glow' came from Pidgy's demonstrations in the Bryce forums. Thanks Pidgy. :) There is a close up of the dancer dreaming in the spotlight here - http://www.pbase.com/kathye/image/45314023 CREDITS The fantastic palais came from Master-S at http://www.grafik-3d-portal.de/portal2.htm though I do not see it up there any more. I applied a lot of my own textures though to make it blend better with the other things. The cathedral at the back is from http://www.rodluc.com/ - textured to blend in with the palais. The building at the right is from the Creepy Clown page of downloads.

Thanks Lakotariver. But I really can't over emphasise that the modelling skills are not my own :( But I told the modeller of the Palais I had used his model so he may see your comment all the same :)

The sky you chose really sets off the model in a most marvelous way - that plus your lighting.....I'd say the creator would be most pleased with what you've done. :)
