Description
This image was done from a photograph I shot of eucalyptus trees by the ocean. I was going to make it into a traditional media drawing but I wanted to see if I could duplicate the pencil look in Painter.
I desaturated the photo in Photoshop and then used "posterize" command to get it down to 10 shades of gray, and used a few "Artistic" filters to give it a simpler painterly feel. Then I switched to Painter and loaded in the modified photo. I used the clone pencil tool to copy the image and was able to follow all the contours of the shapes and add my own energy to the drawing. I added a few different elements that were not in the original.
My personal criticism of the drawing, is while I tried to get it to look like a pencil drawing, it looks more like a pen and ink. But, I like it anyway.
This is of one of my favorite subjects, the path. I can show a philosophical concept with out being preachy.

Beautiful job...The "look" of the photo is gone... it does look like a sketch-drawing... Congrats

Very dramatic light/dark contrasts! I see it as a mixed media: pen and ink with a grey wash on the tree trunks and (very lightly) in the grass of the path. Beautiful image!!

The near view is scenery of the trees. The distant view is abstract feeling. It is very interesting to me.
