Description

Thanks for viewing !! :o) - I found these cute little flowers growing in an open space near the edge of the forest. They were 'competing' with a lot of grasses. It was nice and sunny with a gentle breeze, i wish i could have stayed there longer. Sheep's Bit, Jasione montana. The first flowers appear in May and blooming continues into September. Sheep's Bit is usually at its best from late June until early August. This plant is sometimes confused with Devilsbit Scabious, a somewhat coarser but otherwise similar wild flower. The leaves of Sheep's Bit are long and narrow, while those of Devilsbit Scabious are more oval. It is a member of the bellflower family (Campanulaceae), bearing clustered heads of soft blue flowers. The plants grow scattered in sandy or acid fields or meadows, and they also grow on cliffsides. It self-seeds readily in favourable conditions. Sheep's bit is native to Europe and has been introduced into eastern North America. The narrow- lobed, starry flowers of sheep's bit mass in globes 2.5 cm (1 inch) The plant grows to a height of about 20 cm (8 inches). Have a great tuesday !! :o) - Thanks for all your wonderful comments on my last upload, "Whats That Smell ?" !! -- Many thanks, Jeroen
