Description

Since gravity pulls all objects in the same way into the direction of the center of the earth horizons tend to be horizontal. Those two words have an obvious relation with each other... :) When the horizon is not directly visible it can be confusing to get the horizon correctly. In this shot I found out I had to rotate the upper (original) shot 1.8 degrees and crop it to get it right. Sometimes it is not very disturbing, but shooting a sunset at sea makes a slanting horizon very obvious, most of us notice it at once. Lesson 8 - Take care to shoot the horizon as horizontal as possible. Postwork images with slanting horizons (except those shot with specail artostic reasons) by rotating and cropping them. Wide angle lenses warp straight lines (especially tall buildings, trees and horizons) and it's harder to get the horizon as it should be. Notice the center of the horizon should be horizontal. By the way, this is the Königssee, a wonderful lake in Germany on the border with Austria, close to Salzburg, enclosed by high mountains. You're damned right!!! I very often write comments like "you should apply a rotation of 2 degres on the right/left". And I do this every time I don't have a perfect horizontality in my shots. I just can't stand the shots inclined. Good point!

With all the mountains here, it's hard to tell where the horizon is! This is a magnificent view - thanks for sharing the spectacular scenery :)

Truly one of the main issues with landscape shots for me. No matter how straight I think I have the horizon just a little bit off throws the whole image off. I find myself constantly straightning and cropping horizons...but I have learned to hold steady and line it up a bit more. Thanks for the reminder...Excellent POV on this beauty...just a beauty! Aloha~

fabulous vista again with spectacular clouds on the right! in the far the impressive "Steinernes Meer"? when I am shooting and be impressed by a scene I often did not notice a horizon! but when viewing on the monitor. Sometimes I don't want to turn it because I think it looks more natural! ;o)
