Grass Bug, Stenodema laevigatum
Bodylength: 8- 9 mm
This species has a strikingly slender build compared to other members
of its family. It is also quite a longlived species and it is the female
that overwinters. The larvae appear in the beginning of summer and the
first adults appear in August. They are light yellowish, not unlike older
grass. In autumn they slowly turn to brown, in which color they overwinter.
After that, in spring, the color changes to green, making them less
conspicious in the fresh grasses. So the coloring changes according to
the seasons and the surrounding colors. Larvae and adults feed on various
grasses, particularly Meadow Foxtail, Timothy, Red Fescue, Common Bent and
Wavy Hair-grass; they are especially fond of the flowering heads, sucking
the flower buds and unripe grains. Here it sits on Timothy, Phleum pratense.
Have a wonderful wednesday !! :o)
