A Click Beetle, most probably Athous haemorrhoidalis
Bodylenght: 13 - 15 mm
They can be found in hedgerows and meadows from may to august.
General information: There are some 160 species living in Europe
and their ability to 'click' themselves back on their feet is due
to some interesting insect mechanics. Underneath members of the
click beetle family is a groove and a peg. If the beetle finds
itself inverted it puts a powerful muscle under tension. The peg
is slammed into the pit and the contraction throws the beetle into
the air, producing the audible click.
The larvae, in common with other family members are known as
'wireworms' because of their proportions, and their color, which
is like rusty wire. They feed on roots and can become a pest of
root crops.
Have a super thursday !! :D

Amazing as always. I can never seem to get close to the lightness as this, mine always come out too dark (I blame the sun hiding away from me). Really enjoy seeing you work :)

ooh another interesting shaped bug! Again, his 'hood' over his head again reminds me of some sort of armor like a knight of old would wear. Very interesting and of course an "Excellent" ~ "Perfect" shot!! :-)

Interesting...the click beetles we find are black and shiny. My kids play with them (hard up, I know) and it's like a circus that sends them into laughing hysterics. (easily amused, too) This is a great capture, Jeroen! :0)
