Description
I think this is a Southern Hawker Dragonfly.
I noticed it on the garden path this evening. I approached it carefully and in some surprise, yet to my amazement it never flew away. Something was definately wrong, dragonflies do not, as far as I'm aware at least, sit on garden paths and let 6'2" tall humans walk right up to them and then NOT fly away. Yep, this poor fella had flown this mortal realm. How it came to end its life on my garden path I'll never know.
Dead or not, I couldn't resist having a go at taking a few pictures. I need the practise, and my Angle Finder (90 degree viewfinder extension) arrived today so this was an ideal subject to try it out on and learn abit in the process.
Thanks for looking and any comments you care to leave.
RIP Mr/Miss/Ms Dragonfly.

Amazing Macro!!! I love your title too...it is perfect..hehe Excellent work on this poor little guy/gal...looks very much alive to me except for that kind of psychadelic look in his/her eye. Maybe he/she was just dazed.. lol :-) V

I took a picture of a snapping turtle in a lake once I was so proud and then after taking a closer look much to my embarrasment...was dead! I felt sad for the turtle. This is excellent! Had you no said so I would not have known it was dead. (But then I missed on the turtle too so probably not a good judge! LOL!) VOTE
