Description

I've been meaning to make a futuristic city scene for a while - this is it so far. I got to try out a few new modelling techniques as well as try out some post process tricks. I'm quite pleased with the result although it lacks the 'real' flavour I wanted - one day I'll get there :) trueSpace 5.1 for the modelling and original render. Ability Photopaint and Universe Image Creator for post process. Background plate is a photo I took from my kitchen window. Any feedback welcome (specially any comments on how to get a more 'real' feel. This took a while to model and bring together and I've killed yet another mouse in the process :( ) OK - I've installed a lovely new optical mouse and re-rendered my cityscape. As per suggestions I've replaced the thumbnail, removed much of the fog, doubled the light from the sky and made it way more orange and increased the contrast between light and shadows and also addedd a few extra details on foreground rooftops. The post work is quite extensive in this and I feel much happier with the sense of depth between the buildings. I hope you all enjoy - please give feedback. Cheers Stephen PS This is now the final version of this picture - it has hills and a proper horizon now and the foreground blends better with the background. It was lucky enough to get an Honourable Mention over at the Mothership.

Change the thumbnail the picture is much better than the thumb would say. Get a few more people to look. Great pic.

This really is fantastic! Almost looks like a scene from a movie I rented last weekend. "Imortal" I think it was. As far as improving the only thing I could say is prehpas pop another building in to the far right. It looks like your city limits sort of stop abrubtly. Think you'll ever add more stuff to this? Street level activity would be really cool to see. Cars, signs, people, trees etc. You've practically got a whole move set here, where do you find the time?! Very impressive stuff!

Thank you the feedback folks - I've now replaced the original image with this updated one having acted on the suggestions made. As per Juddee3d's suggestion there is now way less fog - I've gone for a plume of smoke instead. As recommended by j3d cg I've 'popped' another building in at far left and added some further detail to foregound rooftops and some of the background textures. In accordance with Steve's (Madmouse) suggestion I've increased the background lighting and emphasised the highlights to accentuate the shadows - I'm particularly please with the result of this tweak so thanks to Steve.

One of the best images I've seen you make Stephen. The Sky color really ties in well. How did you make the smoke? is that a particle emmitter or post process? The Zep is kewl looking! I'm giving you a vote too!

Thanks for the feedback Steve, Sue and Richard. I'm glad you like my picture. The zeppelin is an old model, one of the first big scale objects I made. It was originally built with AMAPI then when I discovered tS i imported it and retextured and remodelled various components - I'm quite pleased with it and try to slip it into many of my pictures. The smoke is postwork, actually a combination of 'interstellar gas' and 'nebula' from Universe Image Creator which also made a lot of the lights. A very useful tool! Thanks again
