Description
thanks to Jeroen I know now this is a carpenter bee. they are very hard to capture because of erratic behaviour and flight. I had to just wait for one to come to me and I never used the viewer because of no time, just hand held and shot
hope your new week is wonderful and I appreciate you taking time out of your busy life to visit and comment

Wow that is quite a capture Richard !! Its not a mimic however, its a carpenter bee. There isnt enough of this fellow visible to be sure but id say its 'Xylocopa violacea'. But definately 'Xylocopa sp.' :o) Take a look here: http://www.geocities.com/pelionature/Xylocopa.htm or search the net for 'Xylocopa violacea' and 'Xylocopa'. Sorry to answer you so late, i kinda forgot... :(

Amazing shot! Its legs are simply covered with pollen - took me a minute to suss out what I was looking at, as I've not heard of the term mimic before in relation to an insect!
