One of the most famous steam locomotives, not only in France but all over the world is the Chapelon Nr. 231E. The name Chapelon is from the designer and engineer Andre Chapelon. With his new ideas he redesigned the whole locomotive and made the engine stronger and more powerful.
This powerful locomotive had a speed of up to 130 km/h, but in 1956 the Chapelon set a new speed record of 170 km/h.

Rebuild: 1934 - 1937 Weight: 102 ton.
Length: 23.64 meter (Locomotive length: 13.71 meter, Tendern length: 9.73 meter.)
