It was Halloween Eve, and Mortimer the Grim Reaper was taking a break after a busy day of collecting souls. Mortimer was feeling rather lonely, wishing he had someone to keep him company.
Just then, he heard a soft whimper coming from a nearby alleyway. Mortimer cautiously made his way towards the sound, and peeking around the corner, he saw a very unusual sight.
There in the shadows was a small skeleton dog, looking very unhappy. Even in the darkness, Mortimer could make out by the dirt on the dog's fragile bones, that it had been out here for some time.
Mortimer carefully stepped closer, and the canine noticed him and started barking. Mortimer was taken aback at first, and then started laughing. He extended his hand, and with a gentle voice he said, 'Hello there, I'm Mortimer. What's your name?'
The little dog cocked his head to the side and blinked in surprise. Mortimer smiled and said, 'I won't hurt you. What can I call you?'
The little dog seemed to understand, for he bowed his head and perked up his ears, before saying in a small voice, 'My name is BooDawg. My master told me to wait here... but it's been so long and I am afraid.'
Mortimer listened intently as BooDawg told him his story. He had been lost and alone since his owner had abandoned him, but had stayed obediently by the side of the street.
Mortimer was touched by the story, and he offered to take BooDawg home with him. BooDawg was overjoyed to be invited and agreed to come.
And so it was that on Halloween Eve, Mortimer and BooDawg met. They formed an instant bond that was to last forever, and they have been inseparable ever since.
