"Cuppa Joe" was originally built in the late 1980`s as a corner bar and the place enjoyed a decent crowd of locals. Sure, there was the occasional fight and drunk person, but it gave the place a little character. Regulars would routinely come in for a game of pool or to relax after a long day.
Eventually, though, the owner sold it to a new group of developers looking to gentrify the neighborhood. In 1993, the corner bar was turned into a coffee shop, of all things!
The place became even more popular as it shed its reputation as a place for people looking to get drunk. College kids and the 20 and 30-something crowd particularly enjoyed coming in and relaxing on the sofas and plush chairs. Unfortunately, it seemed like a gang of 6 friends would always hang out and monopolize the main couch and chairs. However, they suddenly stopped coming in 2004. The rumors were that they went their separate ways after one of them moved to Paris.
"Cuppa" was bought again in late 2004 and turned into a boutique book store, but this digital model will preserve its glory days as a coffee house.
