Name: Giant Kelp
Scientific: Macrocystis pyrifera
A.K.A.: Bladder Kelp
Notes: This species is a large aquatic brown algae found widely in subtropical, temperate, and sub-Antarctic oceans of the Southern Hemisphere and in the northeast Pacific. It is often a major component of temperate kelp forests. Individual algae may grow to more than 45 metres long at a rate of as much as 60 cm per day. The dense stands that make up kelp forests are home to many marine animals that depend on the algae for food or shelter. The primary commercial product obtained from giant kelp is alginate, but humans also harvest this species on a limited basis for use directly as food. It is rich in iodine, potassium, and other minerals. It can be used in cooking in many of the ways other sea vegetables are used.
Presets in this Package: 12 High Poly and 12 Low Poly.
1. Standard. Fully mature and in good health. Useable in most scenes.
2. Ancient. Very old, larger and considerably gnarled.
3. Young. Smaller, fully mature but still growing.
4. Growing. Not yet mature, some half way through its growing cycle.
5. Immature. Very small and young.
6. Single. One strand only.
7. Smaller Patch. A small patch containing a few strands.
8. Larger Patch. A large patch with many strands.
9. No Current. No drift left or right, just upward growth.
10. Strong Current. Slight drift to the side.
11. Very Strong Current. Strong sideways drift.
12. Extreme Current. Very strong sideways drift.
All models can be switched between High Poly for close up renders, image or video production, and Low Poly for distant renders, use as game assets, or in real-time applications. All materials in this package are certified PBR compliant and have been tested in Unity and Unreal. Any reasonable modification available upon request. Included are two versions, a full and a LITE version. Both versions give good results, but the full version is more accurate and better for hero or close up renders. The LITE version is intended mainly for mid or distant renders or eco use, or use on low end PCs.
