Arctodus or "short-faced bear" is an extinct genus of bear from North America (Pleistocene, about 3.0 Ma.—11,000 years ago).
Arctodus simus may have once been Earth's largest mammalian, terrestrial carnivore.It stood about 1.80 m (5.9 ft) at the shoulder and may have weighed about 800 kg. The short-faced bears belonged to a group of bears known as the running bears. Based upon on evidence Arctodus was carnivorous animal.
