Wattieza (The Gilboa tree) is the Earth's oldest known tree. It stood nearly 8 meters (30 feet) tall.
Wattieza lived during the Middle Devonian period (385 million years ago), before aquatic creatures clambered onto land. The rise of land plants such as Wattieza drastically altered the climate and paved the way for terrestrial animals and insects.
