Interview with Warloc 07

Warloc07: Thank you so much for the honor to be AOM here is my story (-:

Renderosity: Tell us about your background as a digital artist.

Warloc07: I’m very much an adventurer, I love enjoying life and the challenges it has and of learning new things to me is endless journey. My adventures included flying as a Pilot/Flight Instructor, crop dusting, scuba diving and traveling. I was a director of IT (Information Technology) and now semi-retired. As a hobby I took up photography over the years and I love taking photos and learning how to manipulate the photos into something else, then I discovered 3D Art.

How did you become a 3D modeler?

Warloc07: About 7 years ago I started working with Poser and soon after discovered DAZ and been using it since. 3D art became a passion of mine and not a day passed you would find me at my computer watching and learning from great artist of the 3D world. For me, 3D art has open a whole new world with unlimited adventures I can create from imagination and life experiences to share with others.

Your gallery is filled with wonderful renders. What is your secret to rendering? Any tips?

Warloc07: For me lately I have been focusing more on realism in a render, pend andy to achieve that realism I look for content that has the quality to render well, such as skin textures, hair that steers away from the digital look, clothing that conforms well and D-force clothing without a doubt is great content to use.

One great advantage for me, I have been fortunate to have a fast render machine, an Alienware Aurora 5 PC with dual 1080 TI Nvidia graphic cards, I7 processor and 32 G’s of ram. Render speed is based on the number of cuda cores on your graphics cards and clock speed of your PC, and have plenty on my system to allow me to render high quality images very quickly, minutes verses hours or days for some people.

As far as rendering setups that can be a long story, but to keep things short before I render I always go into my render settings and progressive tab and turn render quality off and slide the min samples and max samples all the way to right. This allows me to render till my heart desires and with the fast machine I have it works great for me. And finally lighting is critical to a great render!

My favorite among your works is Mei Lin Gothic. Can you tell us how this image came about?

Warloc07: Well for this image my intention was to create something gothic, I wanted a gothic and yet an exotic looking character. Mei Lin is a great character and has that exotic look to her. I needed a gothic looking background so I found a great looking photo from unsplash.com which is a great resource for backgrounds that I often use. The photos from this is site are free to use as you wish whether is for commercial or private use, no worries there.

What is your workflow as a 3D modeler?

Warloc07: First I try to picture the scene and the background I would like to use. The background can be a photograph or a 3D environment. Then I decide on a character/characters to use and set the pose I desire for the scene. In most cases I set the poses prior to loading a 3D environment, it helps me focus on getting the pose details correct without the distractionime in this artist's extensive gallery you'll see why: his work is meticulous and often very beautiful.

Then I load a background or merge a 3D environment and start creating the scene with characters his creations. It's this kin place and playing around with POV for the scene.

And finally lighting is the number one secret to a great render. Don’t be afraid to experiment with light and shadows to avoid a flat looking image with no shadows and poor lighting on the subject. There are a lot of great lighting content out there and I have many myself to help me focus on my art work and not so much on the technical details.

What applications do you use?

Warloc07: Other than DAZ software, I use Photoshop CC, Topaz Studio and NIK Collections plug-ins for my post work.

How has Renderosity made a difference in your life as an artist?

Warloc07: What first comes to mind is the content that is available, and many of these contents are not available at other sites like DAZ. There are many great content artists out there and without their creativity I would could not produce the kind of art I have now. A big thanks to those people. Also I wish to thank the many viewers for their encouraging words and support of my Art work and also give thanks to all 3D Artists out there, that give me inspiration to do better and learn more. And thank you Renderosity for bringing the above mention all together!

If you could have dinner with anyone in history who would it be and why?

Warloc07: Well as you know a lot of my renders are Asian female and one person that comes in mind is Lucy Liu the actress LOL. Besides being beautiful, she plays those vicious and ill-mannered roles, she is tough yet she has a sensitive and loving side of her. (-:
