Interview with November 2021 Vendor of the Month - KrashWerks

Nov 18, 2021 at 08:00 am by gToon

KrashWerks is the Renderosity Vendor of the Month for November 2021. This talented character creator has a very popular store at Renderosity and is a top seller. His work primarily features women in an amazing variety of settings and poses. All of his work is detailed and expressive. We love the way he creates unique female characters in often striking scenes and poses.

KrashWerks spoke to us about his background and working methods. We congratulate KrashWerks on earning the Vendor of the Month award and thank him for taking the time to speak with us. The video above features 10 best-selling works from KrashWerks' store.

Renderosity: Tell us about your background. Who is KrashWerks?

KrashWerks: My name is Stew and I am a male in my 50s (yes, that old!) and I’ve been an IT Professional for over 30 years now. I live with my beautiful wife in Michigan, and our son just began his first year of residency as an Internal Medicine Doctor. Needless to say, we are very proud! As for the things I enjoy, obviously working in digital characters and art - sports, films, books and even at my age - video games.

How did you become a vendor at Renderosity and why did you choose DAZ as your tool of choice?

KrashWerks: Being a computer person, I was always interested in 3D graphics and digital design. I had been working on characters for a long time as a hobby – first with Poser and I think the first Victoria – then eventually switched to DAZ Studio – I think at first mostly because it was free. As for becoming a vendor, it took me a long time to take the plunge, but I finally decided that I would give it a try and see if others would like my work and to maybe even make a little money doing something that I love. For me, Renderosity was a natural choice.

You have some wonderful characters in your store; do you have any favorites?

KrashWerks: That’s a tough one – it’s almost like asking a father who his favorite child is. Lol. Ok, maybe not quite that but it’s hard for me to make that call. Obviously, there are some that I like better than others, but I’d really have to go back and revisit some of them (something that I don’t do enough) to really decide.

Can you tell us a bit about your workflow? How does a character begin in your imagination?

KrashWerks: Well, it usually starts with an inspiration – a lot of times from a real person, whether it’s a celebrity, someone I know, or maybe even someone I’ve seen on the street. I’m really an admirer of the female form, and I find that beauty comes in all shapes, ages, and ethnicities and I try to convey that beauty in my work. Having said that, I do eventually plan to release some male characters as well. After that, it comes down to the fun stuff for me, which is the actual shaping of the character, sometimes starting with the head, other times the body; and then adding the textures to make her come alive.

How has Renderosity made a difference in your life as a vendor?

KrashWerks: Renderosity has made all the difference for me as a vendor because if it wasn’t for Renderosity, I probably wouldn’t even be a vendor. Sure, there are other sites, but I’ve always felt that Renderosity was the right fit for me. Although I usually keep a pretty low profile, I really enjoy the sense of community at Renderosity and it is so wonderful to have a place where like-minded digital artists and/or aficionados can come together and share their creations.

Any advice for vendors just starting out?

KrashWerks: I would just say to do what you love to do. If you’ve created something that you love, then there’s a strong chance that others will love it as well. And once you’ve got something that you want to sell, make sure to package it up nicely and logically in a way that’s easy to use. And don’t skimp on the promos! That’s probably about it.
