Renderosity: What made you decide to become a vendor at Renderosity?
3dSublimeProductions: At the very beginning I just posted 3D renders of various models I made. Eventually, it led to sharing a few freebies when I learned the basics of using Poser. As the models gained interest with the general community, my friends also in Renderosity chat gave great feedback and encouraged me to sell. They also contributed a lot to my knowledge of Poser and Daz Studio.
What tools do you use to create your products and what is your general workflow?
I use Blender 3D and Gimp for texturing. I like the idea of using open-source software professionally since it shows anyone can do it! First off I establish what I’m going to make, then I gather references to get a central theme and then model very basic objects to get placing and sizing. From there the detailing begins and I replace each basic object with the proper version. Then it’s a matter of refining detail even more until I’m happy with the way it looks, whether that means more objects in a room or more buttons and knobs in a car.
Do you do a lot of research for your creations?
I would say I do a medium amount… not too little that I can’t properly envision the project and not too much that I’m overwhelmed with references that I don’t know what direction I’m going in, and prevent loads of sorting out! The goal is to be (and remain) inspired!
Lastly, what advice do you have for a new vendor at Renderosity?
Be unique. I notice with feedback from buyers that they appreciate it when I fill in a gap, a category not widely explored and limited content is available. Even if there are multiple homes out there for example, there are many different scenarios to explore: double story, triple story, mobile home, boat house… even tree house! And it goes without saying, take note of feedback. Sometimes you’re able to meet the requests/input from others, other times the skill develops with experience. You can always revisit your work and update it so don’t feel like you have to shy away from something… but of course, price accordingly. ;)
