A visit to Renderosity vendor and artist Shawnaloroc’s store and gallery shows his fondness for Science Fiction with a store full of wonderful sci-fi assets from a fighter ship and a supercarrier to a colony mover and lander. There are also characters, weapons and interiors, futuristic buildings and domed (that’s dome not doom) installations. You’ll also find a farm and a Land Skimmer that closely resembles an old farm tractor.
His PodShip is a great example of the attention to detail and style that remains consistent throughout the library of models plus it’s a fun model to work with. His taste in art is still heavily influenced by sci-fi but bit more varied. His first guitar build was a monster of good lines and good looks and a few extra strings. As someone that has built their own guitar, I can safely say it never reached this level of beauty.

Shawnaloroc Interview
What got you interested in digital art and creating 3D content?
When CG was being used more in the 90's sci-fi tv shows like Voyager, and the late 90's blockbuster movies.
Do you feel driven by your desire to create or is it something that just pops up from time to time?
It happens when I see a new idea or type of artwork.
When did you start to realize that you had artistic/creative ability?
At about four years of age, I would draw robots. Loved to come up with designs with Legos as a kid.
What is in your digital toolbox? What applications do you rely on for artwork and/or 3D content creation? Especially your “can’t live without” software apps.
Maya is my main basic modeling, cleanup, and UV mapping tool. The next most used tool is ZBrush. I use ZBrush for more complex modeling needs, it also is a great tool for texture creation with poly paint. Lately, I use Quixel mixer and Midjourney textures for more architecture and environment stuff.
Digital Artists and Content creators form a wide spectrum. Are you formally educated, self-taught, or both in digital asset creation?
I went to the Academy of Art in the early 2000s for a short time for 3d animation. Most of what I know I had to learn on my own. Things have changed a lot since then with 3d software.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
Airline pilot.
Did you end up in a related profession or something totally different?
I changed to art.
Is there anything that you would like the Renderosity community to know about you in particular or a general statement you’d like to make about your digital work?
It's hard to stay focused all the time on art as a craft. If you can get more enjoyment than frustration from what you do, then you're going in the right direction.
