A Word with our Rising Star for May, 2024: Clacydarch

Renderosity enjoys recognizing vendors who display strong talent and are quickly making a name for themselves in the Marketplace. Our Rising Star for this month of May, 2024, is Clacydarch, who in his personal and work life is known by family and clients as Von.

He grew up and still lives in the Philippines. It was while he was in high school in 1995 that he first developed an interest in computers when his dad bought him a Windows 95 desktop. He made it a point to get to know not only the ins and outs of what software could do, but also to learn everything he could about the hardware inside computers.

He was so interested that after the next four years in college he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering.

After that, he went to work for a highly innovative photography-based company that did quick printing of photos, and produced work to satisfy clients with everything from family photos to technical legal images.

He became enamored with digital photography and after a year his Uncle Jay taught him everything he could to do with Photoshop and 3D modeling, which got him a new job with PerspectX, Inc. During the time he spent there, he learned enhanced 3D modeling, texturing, animation and rendering.

Soon, he started his own corporation, Clacydarch, along with his brother and sister who are proprietors for Bituka3D and Tesla3dcorp supplying 3D images for a variety of clients.

Von took some time to answer a few questions on his work life and what goals he has.

What were your first programs for 3D work and what are you using now?

My very first programs in 3D work were Modo, Maya and Photoshop. And now Modo for modeling, UV mapping and setting up materials. Then I learned Substance Painter which I really like! And DAZ for creating environments and props.

What is your typical workflow for a design?

My workflow is like this;

  1. Getting reference
  2. Modo for modeling from scratch, materials and UV
  3. Substance painter for nice textures
  4. Importing Modo files via FBX with textures generated from Substance Painter to DAZ Studio
  5. DAZ Studio for finalizing the materials, lighting and rendering

Please tell us about Clacydarch and what you’re doing with that?

Actually, I founded Clacydarch which is now the parent company of Tesla3dcorp and Bituka3d. The typical client for these companies are software designers for anatomy, architectural designers and some Sci-Fi props for a client that uses DAZ Studio.

What are your plans going forward with Renderosity?

I hope as I, and my siblings grow, we can bring a nice DAZ environment to Renderosity and that Renderosity will help us develop future clients.

What kind of 3D artwork do you most like doing?

I like interior design and Sci-Fi environment themes. But I am trying to explore props, clothing and a new DAZ character for my company.

Who has influenced you most along the way?

My uncle, who helped me from the very start. (Thanks to my uncle).

How has Renderosity helped you develop your skills?

Right now, in a very short period of time here in Renderosity, they’ve helped me create and prepare small things like clothing and props to make them easy to sell, which I haven’t done for very long. So, it challenged my skill while creating, and the support has been very helpful to me!

What advice do you have for someone just getting into 3D design work?

To tell you honestly, I don't know the best advice for someone getting into 3D design, except to say, if you like what you are doing and you set goals, you will succeed, even if there's are lots of struggles. Even A.I. is there and you have to adapt to it and use it properly.
