PHONOPHOBIA - From Greek φωνή - phÅnÄ“, "sound" and φόβος - phobos, "fear". It is a fear of sounds. Imagine having this fear where almost every sound stirred dread in your heart. Imagine being scared to death because you just can't convince yourself that what makes that sound is not something that's out to get you. Imagine all of this coming to a head on Halloween night. Imagine the fear that grips you when your doorbell goes off, fear that refuses to go away no matter how many times you tell yourself it's just children wanting candy. There'll always be that evil little voice in the back of your mind telling you that it's not children, it's something far worse that wants you to open that door. What would -you- do to make it all stop? What would you do for sweet, peaceful silence? Be careful what you wish for. --- What inspired me for this story was my own paranoia about silence. You never know what's hiding there in the quiet, not until it's too late. I thought it would be fun to take that fear and turn it on it's head. Instead of a fear of silence, how about a fear a sound? On *Halloween*?! Even worse - What if I had a good reason for that fear? Happy Halloween ;-) Word count - 999
