Subject: A great magazine article in 3D magazine

The April issue of 3D magazine has a great article on composition for animation and still graphics. Its titled: Tell It Like It Is - Visual Storytelling Through Film Techniques. The article covers almost everything from composition, camera angles, balance, types of shots and motion. It does a great job of covering it all in only six pages. There are also a lot of picture examples.

Does it say EXACTLY how to make digital characters move behind real objects? Does it say EXACTLY how to drop shadows from a digital character onto the 2d scene? I watched the "Making of Walking with Dinosaurs" last night. And as usual with all of these "making of" type shows. They didn't really say anything useful about these subjects. They never do. And It really pisses me off. ScottA

I found the article very interesting. I also found the Making of Walking with Dinos interesting. If they showed how to do all that stuff detailed, the show would have been a series and the magazine a big book. People go to school to learn how to do the neat stuff. They just want everyone else to get an idea of what is involved.

That's because "Making of" shows are mostly for people who don't know anything about the subject.. They're not training videos for people aspiring to do likewise.. Pity though, I think it'd be cool if they had a regular show with 3d tips and tricks... =) Rosh
