Patti Page did ads for Oldsmobile - (makers of the Rocket 88). Sigh, you got me on most of these. 1. Harry Morgan aka Col. Sherman Potter. 2. Maybe Jim Backus aka Thurston Howell III on Gilligan? Every male was an office worker of some sort back then (except Ed Norton and Ralph Kramden). I'll guess and say lawyer but I really don't know. I may be confusing this with I Married Joan. I know Spring Byington was in there somewhere :-) 3. Love Boat eh? Romance, couples - don't remember any boat shows or matchmakers though Lucy & Ricky went on a cruise once - stumped. 4. Harry Morgan, who played Pete on December Bride, was also the star of probably the very first TV spin-off show, Pete and Gladys, where we FINALLY got to see what Gladys looked like. If you remember, Pete always talkeda about Gladys, but we never got to see her. Melanie I love this thread! :D

Okay, everyone seems to have a great memory except for one show. 1. December Bride starred Spring Byington with a very young looking Harry Morgan as Pete. And the Pete and Gladys show had Cara Williams as Gladys. 2. Jim Backus was a judge. Also, I was watching TVLand tribute to Dick Van Dyke show which had a bit about a big boat opening in the house which was a copy of the same thing happening to Joan in an I Married Joan sketch. 3. I just no one remembers the Gale Storm show where she was a cruise director on a ship. Her sidekick was ZaZu Pitts. She was a funny looking lady. I know I am not dreaming this. 4. Robert Culp. Yes, I Spy was very funny and the forerunner for Man From Uncle and I loved both of them. But a more obscure western would be Tales of Wells Fargo with Dale Robertson pitching Pall Mall cigarettes I knew I was getting older when I would rather watch Gail Davis as Annie Oakley than the girls on Mickey Mouse. No one mentioned two shows that I would never miss. You'll Never Get Rich with Phil Silvers and The Andy Devine Show. Maybe we can get our own forum sometimes and call it the Old Foggies Posers. Sorry about adding more. It is fun to talk about some of the old stuff with other people. Although my wife is just a few years away from fifty, I can't talk too much with her about this because she has only been in this country for four years. She is russian from Estonia. Thanks to Nick and TVLand, I have been able to share shows like Cheers (My very favorite), Married With Children (Okay, I'm weird) Twilight Zone, etc. Her favorite is I Love Lucy. And most of my friends are too young to know any of these people. I once was talking about Family Feud with one of them and they mentioned they liked it, and then they said some old man took over. I told them that old man was Richard Dawson and he started the show. Thanks for the fun.

lmckenzie, for obscure westerns you can't beat the two rotating replacements for Cheyenne when Clint Walker had his $$$ dispute with Warner Bros & they had to come up with something when Walker went on strike. :-) Wanted Dead or Alive is easy, if for no other reason the sawed-off rifle Steve McQueen carried in a hip holster :-)

Yes, I remember Gale now, Zazu from other things. I think like Ann Southern, that was one of the older ones (the show not Gale). Who was the male Gale aka The Great Guildersleeves and later Mr. Mooney on Lucy? Before a brief stint in the Navy (show) Jackie Cooper lived with a talking bassett hound named ________ on _________? Cooler, I know the ones and should remember the names. Was one Sugarfoot? I think the other was Bronco. I knew Trackdown was someone who went on to become pretty famous. The Japanese modeler who does guns (Mascara I think) has a model of the 'Mare's Leg.' At the end of Lawrence Welk's, 'Hope You had a Happy Time closing, the gravel voiced baritone/bass said that ______ the sponsoring auto company had 'a good time too.' Now this is getting serious. Rotating Disney westerns: Why did Texas John Slaughter want to join the Texas Rangers? What was the name of one of the other Disney westerns? Hint think Spanish. Two final Disneys a strawman and a mythical little creature. Hopefully those will take some alzheimer's fighting memory work. To make this legitimately Poser related, I saw a site with pictures of 50's fashions. I wish someone with modeling talent would make some of those dresses for Vicky. I've seen a few props that could be 50's but a nice Donna Reed or Mrs. Cleaver dress and maybe one of the little hats for Church would be nice. I think Geralday actually has a figure and some hair but they is low res.

Wayneout, you mentioned Dick Van Dyke. A few months ago, Dan Farr (Poser-related!) mentioned that Dick Van Dyke is a Poser user and buys DAZ items for his art. Who knows, maybe he's even a member here. I remember Ann Southern. I remember she had very strange looking eyes. I think she played a character called Suzy or something, didn't she? Also, every once in a while, for some unexplained reason, I get the old theme song from I Married Joan running through my head. I remember Gale Storm, but I forgot the premise of her show. I don't remember the cruise ship. I was in elementary school at the time (born in 1950), but all these shows are in my memories in some way. Melanie

Melanie, Ann Sothern played in two series that I think I can recall. One was "Private Secretary" where she played Suzie McNamara or maybe another name. Also, she had the Ann Sothern show which was very similiar to the other one. Gale Storm played in "My Little Margie" and also I remembered the name of the show that was on a ship. It was called "Oh, Suzannah" Not sure of the spelling. I wouldn't know the theme from I Married Joan if you played it. If Dick Van Dyke visits this forum, I am sure we will never know. I "think" it was 'The Legend of El Fego Baca' but who knows. The was the 9 lives thing though I think he actually wen thought about 100. Didn't know it was Loggia though. I still remember bits of the Swamp Fox theme. Slaughter wanted to join the Rangers )or said he did) because he already had a white hat. I'm sure there may well have been a father/best friend/dog murder in his past though. Yes, it was Larry (Dodge had a good time too) Hooper - small world. All of the Gale Storm/Ann Southern stuff is at the edge of my memory. I think I remember Ann from reruns many years later. It was definitely an office themed sitcom and Susy McNamara sounds right. Annie Oakley was another female lead series. I somehow (regrettably) missed Irish McCala as Sheena of the Jungle - do remember Jungle Boy though and of course, Circus Boy. Fiftiesweb has a great list of westerns, including ones I'd forgotten like 'Boots and Saddles' and 'Broken Arrow,' plus fashions, fads, trivia etc. A great resource. Don't remember Boots and Saddles at all. Broken Arror with Michael Ansara and somebody named Lupton as Tom Jeffers. (could search for it but that wouldn't be fun. I think it was based on a movie with James Stewart and Jeff Chandler, but could be wrong. No one has mentioned Topper or the Bob Cummings Show, the one where he was a photographer (not the one with Julie Newmar) Okay, my main gripe is Laugh In. Oh yeah, the Bob Cummings show. He always started the show behind a camera and said, "Hold it, I think you're going to like this picture!" and then he would snap the camera. Great memory! Boots and Saddles was a cavalry show. I remembered Topper -(ghost show right?) but couldn't remember the name. Of course, Bob's secretary Schultzie went on to become the Brady's housekeeper. Someone (Bob in old age makeup?) popped in occasionally as his father who flew a biplane & was from Joplin Mo. Wasn't a big Laugh In fan, though Judy Carne & JoAnn Worley's bikini dancing was OK - that and the Walnetto routine with Ruth Buzzi(?) Comedy obscurity - I'm Dickens He's Fenster with John (Gomez Adams) Astin.

Comedy: The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis with Bob Denver as Maynard G. Crebbs, who later became Gilligan. Maynard was a beatnik with a transister radio always wired to his ear and he hated work. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't Dickens and Fenster painters or something? Seems like I remember them in painter's coveralls. Or am I confusing it with another show? Melanie

Yes, they were painters. At least, I remember it that way. In one show they had everyone mad at everyone over a joke. Half the people said it was funny and the other half said it wasn't. JOKE Man asks his shrink, Can a man be in love with a elephant? The shrink says no. The man says, "Do you know where I can get rid of an engagement ring this big? Of course, this is a sight joke because you open you arms big. Thalia (played by Tuesday Weld) was only on for one year but I still remember her. Walter Cronkite narrated this weekly documentary show which used part of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring as its dramatic theme music. Ben Alexander was the partner on TV in the black and white Dragnet. Heavy set, actually more portly, a definite 50s type body. Had a car dealership in San Francisco, Chevrolet, I think. If I'm not mistaken, Ben Alexander was the actor's name, but it could have been the character. I'm now actually older than they both - Webb/Friday and partner - so it's been a while. At any rate, he - Alexander - died I think, which is why Harry Morgan showed up. A definite drop down - for Webb/Friday, who also died at a relatively young age - some type of cancer if I recall. We've already been yelled at once to move to a different sandbox and of all the things to get a 'time out' over 50's TV trivia is way way down at the bottom of my list :-)
