Ummm... Try playing with the glowing green light material that comes with Bryce, and don't forget the power of the different cloud materials. Used with lights and tweaking to the colors and transparancy controls, you can get some cool stuff going on. Dunno if that helps, but experimentation is the major part of the game. L8R!

Someone did a little animation with a shooting gun effect. do a search and you should find it very quickly. The thread was only posted a few days ago. If anyone can answer your question the artist of that thread can. (sorry for being so vaque, I only have about 2 minutes of online time left)

Hola! Today finds the JettBoy working on a big naval battle scene and trying desparately to create a gunfire/cannon fire effect in Bryce 4. Everything, combinations of small lights and flame-textured objects, that I've tried just doesn't look quite right. Any suggestions from the Keepers of All Bryce Wisdom?
