A very simple approach: creating models in Poser by assembling primitives - for beginners. Yesterday i began with the tutorial, along with modelling this simple wooden shelf. the shelf now is ready - the tuorial not. The shelf took approx. half an hour, the tutorial 3 hrs, but not completed yet. i ran into some problems while exporting and assigning materials, so i had to stop with the tutorial, because it turned out too difficult for beginners. anyway i finished the model and made some testrenders. it's modelled exactly as that one i have in my living room. if you are intersted in having this - i can add it to my freebe section tomorrow ... "The simpliest way to modell realistic looking models is to use real objects as reference, look how they are done, and assemble them the same way." (Jenay)

Looks great! The only thing I see wrong is you have the same texture on all the legs and boxes. Looks good though!

I don't think we can ever have enough good tutorials. The basic premise is terrific. I think a LOT of people will benefit from this - You might include a comment about how easy it is to flip or tumble a texture (even Irfanview can do that - it's free and even new-bies shouldn't be hesitant to use it) to add some variety and perhaps tweak the base colors. Do you "weld" the props using Export-&-import as well?

Yes yes yes ! The shelf looks wonderful!

yes i am a fan of irfan view - i use it dayly (and registred it for 10$ a year ago). for thumbnails creation, as a pic viewer, for adding small text to my pics and much more. i created the shelf by using export to obj and import functions of poser. yes - the textures are the same, as i used only 3 different parts and copied them. and i used the same texture for back and front side to save space. pp2 file as approx. 80 KB in size i think.

Please, I'd really like to see this :) Just DLed irfan, but it won't run on Macs---any idea if there is a Mac equivilent?

Being a dolt modelling in any decent 3d-program I sincerly beg you! Please! The only successful props I made were from the primitives :-( Willy

One problem you get when you scale up Poser props (primitives) too much is that it screws up the shadow-casting calculations in P4, making rendered shadows look weird, with unpredictable results. Another problem is that magnets have no effect on some of the Poser props. It might be different in P5, but there's no Mac version for me to beta-test on that.

Check out Droid_04 that i put up in freestuff about a month ago. Entirely modeled from morphed out poser primitives. I started down this road a couple months back. Should've taken the blue pill, if you know what I mean. Mitch

Patricia, If irfan is simply a graphics program, look for GraphicConverter. It's an incredible Mac shareware graphic app! I've noticed recent Macs have even been shipping with it installed. Now, back to my calender.

Before they made me they broke the mold!

hi all :) - just to let you know: i've uploaded the first part of my upcoming tutorial. have a look at it, and tell me what you think about :) there are all objects and needed textures/templates included. the most difficult part (exporting as OBJ and reimporting) is still missing, because i got trouble with the material settings. had to fix it manually with text editor, which is not the scope of the tutorial ... ;) ahh - fogot to mention: i use a german poser version - but i think the screenshots are clear enough :) i have a public link on my artis page: http://www.renderosity.com/artistdownload.ez?Who=jenay&fileid=2270&key=427549
