Subject: Read My Lips (Warning: House Mouse Inside)

The Mimic-ready version of the House Mouse experienced a slight technical delay. I was having trouble keeping the mesh welded together after modifying and replacing the head. With some additional work and joint-parameter tinkering, I have managed to all but eliminate the mesh splitting along the head and neck region, except in the most extreme poses.

I would have posted earlier, but the power went out for a couple of minutes while I was composing this text, and when I stuck my head out of the cave to see what was wrong, I was bludgeoned by golf-ball-sized hail (I believe that's the proper clich size comparison, yes?).

Anyway, while I wait for the dents to pop out of my skull, I'll work on morphs and try to wring some decent emotions out of the little fellow. If nothing else goes horribly wrong I'll have it posted in Free Stuff late tonight. Any requests?

Side note:

I've studied the Stuart Little DVDs for reference. Fans of the films may have noticed that he has human-like teeth. I suspect this was to give him a cuter, less threatening appearance, so I'm taking the same route with the House Mouse. However, I'll try to include some tooth morphs for more natural rodent dentitia.

OMG! How wonderful! Is this going to include the other improvements you've done to the little beasty? Will all the texture mapping still work the same? Can you make him look like the current Bush in the White House? You know a weasle morph? (just kidding!). Pretty neat. Daz should pay you a commission.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2002 at 8:19 PM

errrr WOW. raises jaw back up That's really impressive Little Dragon! yea Daz should take note of this its really a peice of work.

Spit ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2002 at 8:21 PM

Wow wow wow! Squeak! Squeak! Thank you so much! No weasel morphs, please, don't want a Saddam on my harddrive. chortle chortle chortle. Mousie is joking too, which he can do for real in a few hours!

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2002 at 8:59 PM

pdxjims:

It has the same UV-mapping as the original House Mouse (mostly; I messed up a couple of spots around the eyes and will try to reassign them to the proper material regions before post-time, even though you'd likely need a couple of minutes with a magnifying glass to spot them), so it'll still use existing House Mouse textures. The newly-added mouth interior and teeth have their own mapping, and I'll provide textures and UV-templates for both.

For purposes of Mimic compatibility, it'll have blink morphs similar to the ones I created for the House Mouse edition of AnthroEyes. As long as I'm at it, I might as well include the hand dials and EasyPose tail controls in the new CR2.

Do you think I should incorporate the AnthroEyes in this version? I realize that they'd be a bit of a hassle for others to transfer over to the new figure, but it would probably add a half-meg to the download size.

As for DAZ paying me a commission ... they're more likely to string me up by the thumbs once they've seen the bodge-job I've done to their mesh.

That reminds me ... in order to distribute this modification, I'll have to encrypt the .obj file, since it's derived from the DAZ original geometry. Which method would you all prefer: Maz's old Objaction Mover or rcook's new RTEncoder? I favour RTEncoder, myself, but since it's a PC-only application, I'd be alienating the Poser Mac faction. I'm not sure if the software will run on an emulator like VirtualPC. Opinions?

I'll be taking a short Star Trek break now, but will check back later.

dragongirl ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2002 at 10:19 PM

Oh! Those little teeth!! Wonderful!! I vote for objaction mover, since I just learned how to use it. :-) Thanks so much for all your Mousie work!! -dg

Wow, that's too cool. Thanks for all the work you put into this little fellow :-) I vote for Objaction Mover too.

Is there a Mac version of Objaction Mover? I've never needed to use it before, but I really want a Mouse with a Mouth :)

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 19 December 2002 at 2:31 AM

file_36896.jpg

MartinC's Maconverter utility in [ Free Stuff](http://www.renderosity.com/freestuff.ez?Form.Contrib=MartinC&Topsectionid=0) has built-in .pcf (Objaction Mover) decoding. As I don't have access to Macintosh hardware, I cannot test the files to see if they'll decode properly. At least one individual has experienced difficulties decoding Stormrage's ballet clothes with the Mac version of the House Mouse, using RTEncoder. I hope the same doesn't hold true for Mover.

I'm almost done morphing. I just need to recreate the whisker morphs and some brow and teeth morphs, then patch in the hand dials and EasyPose tail. Should be done in about an hour.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 19 December 2002 at 4:31 AM

The morphs are finished, and the EasyPose tail is patched in. I overlooked the hands, but I'm rendering a sample animation right now with the overused Connery voice, and will patch the hand dials in when it's finished. * checks status bar * Currently on frame 65. Perhaps 15-20 minutes.

So cute... Please keep it avaible for Mac Users too. You really did a terrific work here. DAZ should take it to make a Mouse2 model. P. :)

I have this wretched feeling that I'm overlooking something again, but I don't know what.

Oh, well.

MarianneR ( ) posted Thu, 19 December 2002 at 2:07 PM

No, it doesn't work, not on my Mac at least :-( Stormrage's suit didn't work either. I have a pc also and tried RTEncoder with the macmouse obj-file, but the obj-files must be different somehow. I tried opening it in UV-Mapper and resaving, both the pc and mac versions. No luck. It's a pity that the Platinum club rules stops me from buying the pc-version also, at least if I understood it right ...

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 19 December 2002 at 3:06 PM

Bugger all, I was afraid of that. I'd best change the Free Stuff label to PC-only, until I can find a solution.

kpredmor ( ) posted Thu, 19 December 2002 at 9:42 PM

He is so cute. Too bad ya have to pay a small fortune just to get the opportunity to buy this little fellow. Wish DAZ would include him in their other store departments. He looks so great!

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 19 December 2002 at 9:52 PM

You should have signed up while membership was only $50; the savings on my first set of Platinum Club purchases more than made up for the entry fee. Perhaps they'll retire him to the Premiere section once the novelty among us elitists has faded.

  • glances over at DAZ *

Nope, still a Platinum Club exclusive. I wouldn't be surprised if he stays that ....

  • glances at DAZ again *

Ooh, they've got Victoria 3 products in the store already. Excuse me, must dash.

Thank you so much, Little_Dragon! Never mind V3, you've just made Millenium Mouse!

I've uploaded v1.5 of my Mimic-ready House Mouse to Free Stuff; it should be approved in a couple of days.

Improvements include:

A new build of the modified head geometry -- most of the triangles have been converted back to quads.
Completely eliminated the mesh-splitting problem.
Updated versions of the original face morphs, plus a few new ones.
Updated UV-mapping with all the material regions correctly assigned.

While we're waiting for verification, here's the new location for the test video:

Mimic Mouse Video (MPEG format, 316KB) Oh, almost forgot to mention ... you'll need RTEncoder or RTEJava to decrypt the mesh for this new version.

The latest version of my Mimic update for the DAZ House Mouse has just been uploaded to Renderosity's Free Stuff:

http://camelot.renderosity.com/freestuff.ez?Form.Contrib=Little%5FDragon&Topsectionid=0

Improvements include new morphs, tweaks to many existing morphs, posable eyes integrated into the figure mesh, ERC hand controls, and a transmapped eyebrow prop with corresponding brow morphs.

As before, RTEncoder and a copy of the PC version of the House Mouse are required.

Test videos ....

Awesome, LittleDragon!

Perhaps I ought to update my Hamster morph to use this new mesh instead, since it DID suffer a bit from some of the welding problems in the old one.

HouseMouse still lives for sure!!

Funny when I saw this thread revived I thought, Hrmmm... Now would be a good time for a Hamster Morph with Food Stuffed Cheek Pouch Morphs. LOL!

Thank you LD for the fixes:) Love the new eyebrows, gives Mousie a lot more character.

Quote - HouseMouse still lives for sure!!

It may well prove to be Anton's greatest legacy in the Poser community.

After all he went through with Apollo, I wonder how he'd feel about that ....

After playing some more, all I can say now is, WOW!!!! What an improvement!. ::Apollo Mousie:)::

Little Dragon, you did more for HM than anybody else and it's mostly thanks to you that Mousie still lives. Long live House Mouse and LD !!

I've tried texturing Mousie new eyes with Lobo75 Anime Eyes textures (same as seen on my Furrette avatar) - WOW, anime Mousie, sooo cool ^.^ Thanks LD, this is great improvement to my favourite figure :) Eyebrows are fun too, although I probably won't use them in most of slightly less toony projects. But I do need them now for grandpa Mouse, just need to fit any beard piece to him :D Now if only I could transfer succesfully "devil tail" morph from regular Mousie to Mimic version... Hate Morph Manager, never works for me :/

Anton's greatest legacy ? Could be. Right beside MFD (it is by Anton, isn't it ?), which probably is still the most versatile piece of V3 clothing ever (at least judging by galleries and stores, as I can't aford it, nor PC membership, to check by myself).
