Subject: Vic3...base vs. base upgrade

Dave-So ( ) posted Thu, 19 December 2002 at 11:57 PM · edited Mon, 05 August 2024 at 7:12 AM

Needed to ask this away from that spawning monster thread below :) It was stated the upgrade base is for folks owning V1/V2. Does V1 or V2 have to be installed in the runtime for the upgrade to work? Or, it it still a stand alone product? Does it use the V1/V2 obj and change it???? What's the deal.... I'll take my answer off the air :) Way late and must go nighty night.

The Vicki3 base upgrade page at Daz3d says that Vicki must be installed. So this is the upgrade path for people that own Vicki already but it must be installed to install Vicki3. The Vicki3 base package would be standalone and costs more. Other than that, they are the same packages in content.

I'm going to guess that the V3 upgrade will look for the V1 or V2 files, probably the OBJ, it's been a while since I installed it, like bloodsong's Eagle Expansion Pack from DAZ does before it will proceed with the installation.

ahhh...I see that little blurp now...must hunt for it or overwrite it ???? I have V1/V2 so that's not a problem...was mainly wondering about the obj file itself and whether it was just modifying V2 or was its own entity.

also, I have V2 installed in my P4 runtime linked to P5...would prefer V3 be in my P5 runtime...hopefully the upgrade does not find V2 and install in the same directory/runtime. could reinstall V2 in P5, I suppose, but would rather not...just lazy and don't feel like finding the CD in this mess.

I think it looks in the Geometries folder as my .cr2 files are not in the standard location. I do have P5, but only one Runtime folder, so I don't know if it can look through multiple Runtimes. On initial poking, it seemed to load everything okay. (Thank goodness for nested subfolders. V3 installed tons of Pose folders.)

scupper ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 12:23 AM

Can you nest those subfolders? I was a little wary when I saw the "Do not rename these folders!" warning. Does that not apply to moving/nesting them?

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 12:27 AM

Yep, it throws a hissy fit if you move the folders, including nesting them. I just found that out. (RTFM is for wimps!) Ah, well. That's what batch search/replace programs are for. Cheers!

scupper ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 12:30 AM

Ah well. Luckily, I have PBoost! :)

What do you have to search and replace, I plan on nesting the folders too like I do currently for P5. Thanks

The installer searches and examines the some of the base file for validity before it will execute.

What if we have moved CR2 files around, will that matter?

Eowyn ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 5:05 AM

Dave, I had moved my .cr2s around (Vicki2 wasn't in Daz people but People folder) and my V3 installed perfectly (and seems to work perfectly too). :)

GReat news, guess I will be getting her tomorrow, thanks Outi :)

Orio ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 7:30 AM

With the discounts applied, the difference between V3update and V3regular is only some $4+... not worth in my opinion to purchase the upgrade, better to add those extra bucks and have an independent model that you can install wherever you want regardless of V2. That's what I did, anyway.

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 11:30 AM

Moving the .cr2 files is fine. It's moving the Pose folders that is causing the issue. This isn't a complaint. Ya move files, ya need to change pointers. I had Textpad - the full version. (textpad.com) It's wonderfully fast with large text files. I can open up all the injection files and do a batch path replace on all open files. I'll just change the part that says "pose:!Vic...." to "pose:V3:!Vic..." (I'm not at home right now, so my path might be slightly off, but you get the idea.) Does anyone have a different text editor that wouldn't requiring opening the files first? I love Textpad, but if I could speed this up a bit, I'd be an even happier camper. Cheers! (And Happy Vicmas?!?) ;-}~

You can turn on the Hidden Attrib though. So you don't have to look at all thoes darn MAT morph files. You must unhide them before you use them.
