Subject: A suggestion for galleries

guarie ( ) posted Mon, 02 December 2002 at 3:00 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 10:46 PM

I've been wondering if it would be at all feasible/possible to have a "watch this artist" button added to the galleries. There are a few artists that I really admire and would love to be informed when they've posted a new render to their galleries. Whether by IM or email it doesn't matter. I don't always have time to go through the galleries and would find it really handy to know when some of my favourites add a new item so I don't have to wade through up to 15 pages at a time (probably more) in search of their work. I'm not saying I won't keep looking at the galleries but it would be handy to have a 'heads up' system. Could you guys think about maybe adding this function? Thanks Guarie

I like this idea a lot. :o) I wish we could have a "watch list" button, so that we can automatically add a series of artists to a list of favorites. They post a new image, and I automatically get an email notification. Right now I have to do this manually, and with a list of almost forty artists long this takes quite a while on a 56k. Cheers! - M

I think the guestbook is supposed to do this, but it takes the artist to send a message when something new is added...nothing automatic about the system as far as I can tell. I'd like an automatic system too. If I can get automatically noticed when an email is added to a thread (and I can), then it seems equally possible to get an email for new additions to the gallery. Good idea...I hope they seriously consider it.

Good Idea.

Just curious - do the Mods or Admins even read this forum? Some feedback about suggestions would be really nice. Whether it's a 'great idea we'll look at it' or a 'nah - dumb idea' or even a 'maybe - but it could be a bit hard to do' would be nice. I posted the original post 3 days ago and not a sound from the PTB. C'mon guys are you monitoring this forum? Can we have your feedback? Guarie

I've noticed the same thing. Every couple weeks there's a flurry of
responses, then a great void. Maybe they wait until there are
enough people chiming in on a suggestion before they think there is
concensus to respond to. Or, maybe, we're all alone..... :

Ok! hows this? "maybe - I'll put a suggestion foward and see what we can do" Personally I think the idea has a lot of merit...watch this space! :-)> ( a moderator of the 2D graphics forum)

I always think of this forum as kind of a "Suggestion Box" for Renderosity - most businesses/clubs/offices I've seen, they only empty the suggestion box once every two to four weeks, since there's rarely an oportunity to act on sugestions immediately anyway. Not saying it's right or wrong, just my impression. I've posted suggestions from time to time, and responses range from 20 minutes for a mod or admin comment, to 3 weeks - a couple don't seem to have warranted a response at all. I imagine a fair number of posts don't warrant any real reply - especially if no supporting or opposing comments have been posted within a week or two. Not a problem, I can aqlways re-phrase & re-post if it's something I feel is important. I've even IM'd a mod or admin sometimes with a link to the thread, requesting comment, or forwarding to whoever should note it - I don't recall ever not getting a response within 3 days at the most. About the original "Watch this artist" suggestion - I currently have a Favorites sub-folder of artist galleries whose work I like that I visit from time to time - I'd like to get EBot alerts to their new works as well. Some artists, like Sondafolo, I enjoy so much I'd be delighted to see anything they post ASAP.

If quantity of replies means anything to the PTB then I'd like to say I like this idea. I think just about everybody who watches the galleries has a favorite artist or two they would like to be kept up to date on... I know I do. Jack

This idea has been put forward to thePTB by PunkClown but the programmer is really busy right now so it may be a while before we hear anythiing..... bevchiron (another 2D graphics forum moderator!!)
