Subject: Here's a question for Daz/Anton

First, thanks so much for the new V3...she looks wonderful! I bought the high res pkg. and just tried to apply the Mat pose textures to V3. I run Poser4 (no propack) and Poser keeps asking me for the textures when I click on any of the mat pose thumbnails. It goes down the list and then will start asking for the same texture all over again and then crashes. Were the textures ever tested on plain old Poser4? I've had this problem with other Daz textures as well. Sorry if this sounds like I'm whining...I just think Daz should be aware of the problem and maybe fix it. :-)

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

That happens to me to when I run my Poser 4...Sharen

Did you get a chance to look at the cr2 to see what it's loading and from where? I will have to load up poser4 and check it out, my curiosity is up now. Marque

I would make my own Mat pose files, but I can't get a fully texturized character to make one with (crashes before I get the chance). After the crash I have to go into the geometry file and delete the rsr.

the bumpmaps are in jpg format and must be converted in poser4 to bum files. load every matfiles in the bumpfile section where you aplly the mats manually.they are converted and saved for the next time

You are exactly right thegeisel, thank you....geez, do I feel dumb. :-)

I agree with thgeisel on this one. In my haste to load stuff and play I normally just close down the ReadMe file. But I did glance at this one and it said to convert the BUMP files before using the MAT files - so I did. I'm running straight poser 4 and have had no problems with them.

LaurieA ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 10:56 AM

Same here. Converted the .bums first, no problems :) Laurie

I had the same thing happen, ask for the bum file and then poser 4 crashes instead of canceling. After this error I kept getting can't open Vic3.obj and couldnt figure out what was wrong, then I remembered to try and delete the .rsr in the Geometries folder and then I just went through using edit pad and took that bum reference out of the mat pose files and replaced them with NO_MAP. If I need to do a highly detailed close up I can apply the bum manually. I hate those darn things. After this she worked great I think she is fantastic, very versatle and she poses so wonderfully. The injection poses worked better in poser 4 than 5 but I had her working in both quite well applying the pose/morphs one at a time which is my personal preference anyway. Now I cant wait for Mike 3 :)

Quick Clarification, I should have known better and converted the jpg first as it said in the readme but in my haste to open her forgot and then she wouldnt open. I prefer just removing those references to the bum file but I know many would not prefer to do it that way since it must be manually, the easiest way is converting them before opening her.

Dizzie ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 3:23 PM

How do you convert them BEFORE opening her?

LaurieA ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 3:29 PM

Open a new doc, place the ball prop in it, apply the bumps.jpg from the Vic3 folder to the ball. Say yes eveytime it asks to create a bum and there you are. Next time you apply that mat file you'll be fine. Laurie

you open poser load the Sphere on Box from primitaves, then load all the BUM's you need converting manually. Another way is to open each JPG in PS or PSP convert them to Greyscale then save them as BMP's then rename the extension to BUM.

Thanks for all the great info!!

Hey rockets and anyone else who had this problem, whatever you do, DON'T FEEL DUMB! This forum is at its best when people can help each other. It seems that lots of P4 users go through this with various models. It was a learning experience for me with the Millennium Dragon. LaurieA and Dave71.s suggestions are perfect. One more thing, though; If anyone actually goes through this process and assigns the .jpg bump maps to the model in P4, it's possible that the MAT pose file will load the .jpgs, not the .bums, every time after that, even after you convert the files in the Materials Editor, UNLESS you use a text editor (e.g. Windows' Notepad) to open the MAT pose file and change the extension of all the bump map .jpg assignments to .bum. This is easily aided with Notepad's "find" feature. Search on the word "bump" and you can quickly click through the various references. (Skip the bump strength references.)

heyas; guys, you don't need to load any prop. just apply the bumps to the ground plane! (you can get a pretty good preview of them there, too ;) )

LaurieA ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:15 PM

The ground plane! That makes even more sense! Thanks bloodsong ;o) Laurie

Tammy ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:39 PM

I deleted the way I did it, you guys had much better options :). I never thought about the ground plane either.

bloodsong ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 6:53 PM

xo... why don't you just use the txt editors search and replace on ".bum" to ".jpg."? then it won't hit the bump_strenth and whatnots. p4 can load jpgs or greyscale whatevers into the bump channel if you change the cr2/pz2 files to do that. they don't work exactly the same as the bum files, but they usually give okay results. if your figure comes out with weird black soot all over him/her, then you need to use the bums, not the jpgs. :)
