Has any one posted the new maps for Victoria III? I did not see any templates download at Daz's site, I would be interested in seeing what they are like.

Is it legal to distribute the templates themselves, since last time I checked, they were still not available unless you purchased Vicki 3. I'd like to know before I start on a seam guide. :) Thanks, take care. SnowS

When you download it, and install it will check if you have to V3 model if not it dont install it that all, but is free on DAZ site...

thgeisel ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 3:35 PM

not the templates are there ,only the uvs to change v3 uvs to v2 uvs, so that v3 can use the v2 textures. ( hope i didnt mess up with all the "V") :-))

This should give you an impression of what the V3 templates are like without infringing on copyrights, etc...

look at Dan Farr's post (post #3) in that thread : "You will see templates up on the product page as well, soon"

Is more simple just get the UV's from DAZ use the UVmapper Load figure at runtime->geometry->Dazpoeple->Vic 3 then import the DAZ UV's MAP in it at runtime->Daz V3 uv's or some thinks like this then save the figure as the on you get from the daz people in the runtime folder, juste overwrtie the Daz one, it work, but first make a copy of the original one, I for get the name now

I love your seam guides Snow, I depend on them greatly when I create my textures. I hope you get to distribute them. I was looking at the FAQs page at Daz and noticed the great expense and trouble that they have gone through to create photo real maps of Natalie Abramov. They use a Hasselblad body and lens at 20,000 dollars - not to mention - several grand a day for her time and the controlled lighting environment. Since they are not making the templates freely available, I guess they really do not want us to cut into their business with all the output of cash. Even if one does purchase Victoria III. Will there be any problem in distributing the textures freely and leagly I created as I please personally I think this would be very hard to enforce

Niki ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 4:09 PM

Is not the question UV's map have nothings to do about the teextutre it self and the way they toke that picture do do the texture all, that to me, is what i call chocolat :(

bijouchat ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 4:10 PM

I can't imagine for the life of me they would restrict the uvmap distribution... lol I think its more to stop people from downloading the uvmap and running up bandwidth when they haven't actually bought V3... that's all

SnowSultan ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 4:21 PM

Haha, good (because I'm already well into making the seam guide). ;) Thanks for your reply, that's pretty much what I expected. :) SnowS

I have a question for you all. Now that Vicky has separate maps for teeth and eyes, is it legal or possible to just do the face/body maps for maybe free stuff and have the mat file load in the Daz created teeth and eyes from their directory (not include the teeth and eyes textures with the archive?)...Just curious...

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 22 December 2002 at 12:15 AM

That's what I did with the eye textures I made for Poser Styles Very Hi-Res Eyes. The mat files pointed to PoserStyle's reflection maps, but I did not include them in my zip file - only included those textures that I created. Don't see anything wrong with it. Don't see how that would be infringement either as long as you don't included the copyrighted maps that your MAT files point to. Laurie

hankim ( ) posted Sun, 22 December 2002 at 3:38 AM

Dan Farr stated in a previous post that the map template will be available for free download -- in the chaos of the release, it was simple oversight that it was not put up as a separate, free download. ShadowWind -- to create the MAT files using the DAZ textures, the end user would already need the specific texture file from DAZ on their system; the MAT file just points to that. If the file wasn't there, Poser would ask you to browse to it. The best way to do what I think you mean is to just not reference the teeth and eyes at all, it seems to me. :-)

I noticed that with a lot of Daz new stuff, they are including the map templates in a separate installer after you order the item. I can only think this could be a bandwidth saving measure, and to give some convenience to those that have bought the item. I would think the V3 templates would show up in the Daz free stuff area eventually, if they want to distribute them that way. I'm glad that SnowSultan is doing a V3 seam guide... I use them and am extremely happy with his work. I'm sure Daz would be very supportive of his making one too, it only helps their product.
