Subject: "WIP" I know everyone's done one but...its a cool Ring!

I have had this idea since the last movie and decided to do it this weekend.

Poser Hand, texture by me. The rest is Bryce and a LOTR's text I picked up on boolean torus, with several different lights.

Please Comments and suggestions are welcome.

good texture on the hand. The wrinkles on the part of the hand near the thumb may have been overdone(?)but maybe not.

They are a bit distracting maybe I can tone it down a bit.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 4:45 AM

No don't turn it down it looks like ingrained grime from all the tracking they do through the muck and mire of Middle Earth. It's a supperb texture, you wouldn't be wanting to share it would you? ;) (had to ask) Catlin

Awesome hand texture :) I'm with Catlin_mc on the question as well ;)(also had to ask) With regards to the glow on the ring - gives an interesting effect - the ring to me looks almost like it's floating in the hand (though that could just be me).

Think you should leave it as it is! Looks awesome to me!

Very nice! I think the ring needs to be taller/thicker(?), seems a bit thin. The size is about right but wider I guess is what I'm trying to say. Excellent hand texture.

Excellent hand texture! There is always a new twist that can be made to a subject and you did it well. LynnDee

Thanks all I was going for a dirty, gritty little hobbit hand. The ring is not so much floating as falling forward in Frodo's hand. I think I will go ahead and post it! Thanks again!

Looks like you achieved what you set out to do! Great job! Is the hand tex available??.. LOL.. It really is good.

I think this was the Site

And then Tengwar Gandalf I think. Don't remember exactly got it a year ago doing a search on Tolkien Fonts, after getting frustrated trying to find a ring for Bryce.

bikermouse ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 12:22 AM

It's been a while since I read Tolkien, but didn't the book have examples of the various fonts in it? BTW the Gandalf font looks right to me . . . of course my prejudice has something to do with my affectation and affinity(similarity) to the characters Gandalf and Strider. Hey, in LOTR 4 can I be Stridalf or Gandider? - TJ

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

Aldaron, you seem to have LOTR on the brain tooooooooooo, I have been living in Middle Earth since I read the book at the tender age of 13. I've never been the same since, think it warped my idea of reality. OR, it could be the whiskey I've been drinking tonight. 8o} Seasons greetings to everyone, hic! Catlin

Had a wonderful time over Xmas Chris I'm glad you enjoyed Scotland, the "Tourist Centre," folks will be overjoyed. Now if only we could get people to come here in the summer. Catlin I'm actually working on a holiday scene set in the highlands at the moment so look out and see what you think.
