Not necessarily. There's still a few people left who don't have any of the Millenneum figures (I encountered such a person in the Poser newsgroup recently).

and Don and Juudy from poser 5 are reworked dork and posette. (reworked to use face room )

pdxjims ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 6:44 PM

There's way too much stuff out there for Posette to make it worthwhile to relagate her to the scrapheap. We were stuck with her for so long that lots of people made great textures, morphs, cloths, poses, and hair for her. In many ways she can be very versitle. However, the dork can go. Nobody ever did much of anything for him.

GizmoMkI ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 6:52 PM

And this always seems like argument of elitism to me, as I can't afford to buy all the DAZ figures and their various accessories that seem to be required if you want to put on a texture or even a simple outfit for them. I'm glad people still make things available for the stock figures.

Finister ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 6:58 PM

Poor, poor Dork. Such an under appreciated player in a time of thong bikini's,breast magnets and reworked gen geometries. Only the silent arduous walk of shame awaits you as you are cast out of the city. Woe to the vanquished. And as he walks out into the desert he lifts a single arm into the air, one long defiant finger pointing back at the crowd that disowned him. His plastic hair gleaming in the sun.

Jaqui ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 6:58 PM

Gizmo mark 1 well, I ain't saying scrap her, or the dork. since they have been included in poser 5 I doubt that cl is thinking of scrapping them either.

Poppi ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 7:03 PM

there's a street corner, on the bad side of town, 'n a bag of crack with her name on it. dork, he's playin' the ponies...there's a concrete slab, under a parking lot with his name on it. ya din't hear it from me.

I guess no one saw Jim Burton's Posette 2003 rework in a recent thread?

Thanks PabloS, I was sort of thinking she was beneath contempt or something! It's not like I'm charging for her. Oh, the hi-res version is going to be held up a little, as I've got to rush some V3 stuff out, but V3 has also given me some new ideas about joint bending which I'll add to her.

PabloS ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 9:13 PM

"V3 has also given me some new ideas about joint bending which I'll add to her" ooooooh. That would be pretty slick Jim.

GizmoMkI ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 9:22 PM

She's beautiful, Jim. Is she still available, and does she work in P4?

Jim Burton ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 9:29 PM

Thanks! Yep, I only use P4. I'm not going to put her in Freestuff, as I'm afraid she'll get 10 zillion downloads and kill BBay's server, but I will (eventually) also have her on my home page. I don't plan on taking her away later or anything, but right now the only people who will get her are the ones that read the threds!

Check out this lo-res preview. Just a quickie of a little side project I'm working on. (Windows Media) Had to put it on the PoserMerchant site - Posertrax's bandwidth is maxed this month... :(

GizmoMkI ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 10:10 PM

Thanks for the link, Jim. I don't what's going on with my connections lately, I haven't been able to get into IMDB for a couple of days, my attempt to download the file seems to be just there and not even telling me the file size, and it right now it's looking like I can't connect to BBay's site either. Seems like I was able to get around fine last week, I don't know if this is weather related problems at various hubs or what's going on.

It's just sitting there spinning it's wheels, not even gettin the address :-(

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Bobasaur ( ) posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 11:49 PM

I still don't own a Vicky. Not that she doesn't tempt me, but Posette is working for my simple needs right now. When I'm doing fun stuff for myself I don't need the overhead required by a high resolution model. I suspect there will be a Vicky in my future, just not now.

Before they made me they broke the mold!

Posette is still my favourite female, although I have some of the others. Jim thanks for this one, hope tp get it sometime soon And I actually use a morphed dork quite a lot, especially for elves, mike is just to muscular.

EdW ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 1:52 AM

I still use posette in most of my animations. Most of my characters are still P4 based.... hell I still use a couple of P3 based characters. I was never able to recreate them with the P4 figures or any of the others. I have found that most of the time for me anyway, the P4 figures work quite well for what I do. Most of the hi-res figures have way too much overhead for the amount of difference they make. If I could recreate some of the characters with the hi-res figures, I would probably use them for closeups. Just my .02 worth Ed

lmckenzie ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 3:11 AM

She looks great Jim but your link doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

Animators need the P4 people. They work great with Mimic, for whom they were intended. They're memory efficient. And they are easier to pose and animate. I love 'em. Always will. -jjsemp

Phantast ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 5:28 AM

Agreed. And they tend to be fine for non-closeup work. So many of the gallery pictures here are misty vicky closeups, but if you are doing action scenes with several figures there's not such a big advantage in using Vicky over Posette.

Krel ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 6:02 AM

Here's my opinion......I've never been inspired to buy Vicki (her features are too sharp, I like softer features in a woman), I bought Dina and while her body is excellent, she just isn't pretty...... After all this time and multitude of characters, I still like Posette best and think she is very pretty with graceful features. Wish the joints and bending were better but Jim's work is always outstanding so his version may be the remedy...... Thanks Jim! I've admired your stuff for a long time and I bought your lingerie set a while back (for Posette) which is probably the best out there. I also think your hair is excellent and have your Hollywood and Strip hair sets. Krel

I use dork, still, from time to time. I still get demands for pictures of Kedikai, who was entirely p4(hell, p3), before I knew of postwork. I got mike as soon as he came out and was SORELY disappointed with him. He was too bulky, and did not work well for what I wanted. Heavily morphed Dork: http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/loth/c/h/christanel/kedikai.jpg.html Now, I'm pretty happy with Mike. I've got people crying because they can't figure out if it's Mike, Steph or Vicki. Ked's been zipped up, as I roleplayed the character, and when he died, I didn't want to disturb his 'grave' except for his final image. Hey Jim you been holding out on us I love Possette as much as Vicki or Steph. especially with solo22 Fara or the vicki buster texture and BAT Lab Clothing you can't discard Possette just my $.02 And Thanx Jim Merry Xmas too ALL

You might as well PAY attention, because you can't afford FREE speech

Penguinisto ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 10:41 AM

I dunno... Aiko is my absolute favorite, but I still find times when Posette comes in handy. (Incidentally, yeah Judy is a re-worked Posette, but Judy is one ugly-assed wench - at least Posette is cute in her own way.) I'm looking forward to seeing what Jim does with the mesh. /P

GizmoMkI ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 1:03 PM

Oooh, I think I'm in love. Finally got her and she looks great. Here she is with StudioMaya's new Yuna hair wearing a texture by DThureGrif. Many thanks, Jim and Happy Christmas. All my links that were dead last night seem to be working too, sometimes I think the Internet is a plot to drive us insane.

Oops, forgot to upload her!!! (further proof of my insanity theory)

Jim Burton ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 1:08 PM

We seem to be overloading BBay server a bit, which is what I was afraid of, but she is still there, maybe try later if you can't get her.

Charlie_Tuna ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 1:46 PM

And that was just from us readers here, good thing you didn't put her in free stuff :-)

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

nwmione ( ) posted Tue, 24 December 2002 at 7:57 PM

I use only Posette and today there are a lot of variations and incredible morphs (huge face morphs). Great on memory and disk space, too. I downloaded the Posette 2003 and when I used the Mover I get a box -- File Access Denied, so I can't create the .obj file to see this. Probably great. Jim Burton is already a Poser Legend, in my opinion.

Dork dead? Not a chance, not when I can make him look like this. He animates far easier than Mike, just as Posette animates much easier than Vicky (even lo-rez V). There's life in these two yet.

SergeantJack ( ) posted Fri, 27 December 2002 at 6:55 AM

Posette is still alive and kicking. I have faith in her, if I can make her look like these nine lovely ladies: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=203849
