Subject: Carrara vs. Ampai

I don't think I understand the difference between these two apps. Could someone please explain the differences to me? It would seem that they would compliment each other in some way, as Carrara came with an older version on the CD. Thanks,

Everything you want to know is already explained on the Eovia website. The Carrara section: http://www.eovia.com/carrara/product_intro_car.jsp The Amapi section: http://www.eovia.com/amapi/product_intro_am.jsp

Amapi is more of a modeling program (a very powerful modeling program) where as Carrara is a more rounded kind of package with a lot more rendering power. Modeling in C is pretty good but Amapi is built specifically for it and has more teeth in it. -Kix

Sounds like it would be more beneficial to learn to model in Amapi, then render in Carrara then. Too bad the version I have doesn't run under OS X

While Amapi is good don't be fooled by the hype for it or lack there of for Carrara as a modeler. Modeling in Carrara is hardly substandard. Once you understand it there will be little that you can not make with it. You will be pleasently surprised.
