Displaying a swastika is illegal in some countries

Did you know that the swastika is actually a rune? Too bad it has to have such horrid acts connected with it. Marque

SamTherapy ( ) posted Tue, 31 December 2002 at 9:55 AM

Marque, it also crops up in other cultures, too. I believe it was also a Hindu symbol, and was also used by some Native American nations. The runic connection doesn't surprise me, due to Hitler's gang of madmen being pretty big on Norse mythology and suchlike.

Someone at work once told me that the swastika started out as a Hindu symbol, but was reversed in the other direction. My mother told me she had a swastika ring way back in the 1920's, but when Hitler came along and adopted it as his symbol, it ruined it for her and she had to throw the ring away. Melanie

Actually a Buddhist (sp?) symbol as well, though I'm unsure of it's significance in the Hindu religion. Correct though...the arms are reversed in direction. Saw them all over the place in Asia. It was a little disconcerting at first, until someone pointed out the above to me. Bootbabe, try Renderotica as well...thought I saw it over there.
