Subject: No glow Nostrils

Hi, I keep hearing about no glow nostril fixes. Couldn't find it in Freestuff, Saw it in the Arizona Package and understand that it fixes the glowing nostrils of Vicki. Does anyone use it and does anyone know where they can be found free ? Thanks.

There's some props at the above link - probably what you're looking for. If you have P5 and raytrace your shadows this also gets rid of the problem (but sometimes causes other problems with renders).

DAZ seems to have fixed the glowing nostrils in the new Vicki 3. I've rendered her numerous times now and her nostrils are dark every time. Melanie

I remember Anton announcing a few months ago that the problem was caused by the nostril geometry itself. He even posted a preview pic of Vicky 3 to demonstrate that her nostrils were fixed.

Ah, here it is:

Interesting how many of the same questions and remarks now being made about Vicky 3 (joint parameters, morph and texture compatibility, clothing) were brought up in that thread ....

Yeah it is also lighting too. Poser has a trouble casting shadows on what it perceives as "small", "thin" or "Tiny" geometry. Global lights with shadows on are kinda required. Actually alot of what she is is because of that thread. We tried to give people most of what they asked for as much as we could. That was one of the early beta heads. Anton

Thanks Melanie, Little Dragon and Anton. I got Vickie 3 so not a problem with her. I also got Vickie 2 and sometimes I use her when I want to use head morphs that only work for her. The nosrils definitely glow when I use the default Poser lights. I will probably use the no glow prop or use global lights (with shadows) when using V2.

The No glow prop works painlessly for me-- comes in Vicki, Mike and Stephie size and is infinitly adustable. Emily

Poser 4 has a problem throwing a shadow on something that is very close to the object throwing the shadow - so the nostril's outer edge is so close to the inner part of the nostril that Poser doesn't get the shadow sorted out. Give her ENORMOUS nostrils and you'll get a shadow all right.... :o) I usually fix this in post though. Easiest by far. An alternative is to put dark areas in the head texture just there. Maybe that's how V3 has been fixed up? Or you can use Trav's no-glow nostril props at the link above in LD's post. :] Fish

In Surface Materials under Render menu, I apply a dark brown color and I will also use the no-glow nostril prop as well. This works pretty well. Vicki 3 is great because her nostrils don't glow. I'm sure Michael 3 will have the same fix. Melanie
