Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 22 9:27 pm)
It should read off of CD as an additional Runtime file, but beware if you do any grouping, or try to save to the external Runtime. I back mine up onto CD, then dump it back onto HDD when needed. CD transfer speeds are still a touch slower than native HDD speeds (at least on my SCSI box it is), though an external firewire drive is real nice for storing an external Runtime, becuase your transfer speeds are equal to internal HDD speeds, and it can be written to. /P
That is a great idea, even with the propack, I could move all my textures to a cdrw and just point them to there...would clear up massive amounts of space.

I acually have poser 4 installed on a dvd-ram disk with all the runtimes. I think the reason maybe cdr won't work is it's write only? Just taking a guess. If your runtime is real big you could put like a couple of charaters and all the pose/mat files for them on the same cd. Might be easier to organize :)
dialyn,I helped a friend do just what you are trying. As the texture files are what eat up most of the HHD space, that is what I put on disks for him.I then ran CorrectReferance(free stuff)to set Poser to look on drive D,for the textures. The loading time is a little slower(not bad),but once loaded everything moves along as normal. One important point is the removable disk should be a CD-R....DO NOT USE a CD-RW disk,as they are too easy to become corrupt. I really need to clear some space on my hard drive, and I was thinking it would be nice and convenient if I could save Runtimes to CD's (no, I don't have DVD capabilities...Santa didn't like me this year). I seem to recall vaguely that this was discussed when Poser 5 was first released but I don't remember if anyone has successful used files off of CD's or not. Anyone out there doing that? Many thanks.
