ok... give me some feedback. I've had two topics floating around in my mind and haven't been able to decide. first: a pretty open subject like we've been doing, "A New Beginning"... and your interpretation of that theme.... all imports and postwork allowed, or... second: a more limited topic, "Back to Bryce Basics"... a land- and/or sea-scape. Object imports allowed (since folks using a Bryce version earlier than 5 can't benefit from trees and metaballs), but main focus must be the landscape/seascape/sky. No postwork. opinions???

I like the idea of "New Beginnings". There is so much strife in the world today I think it would be good to work on a positive image. Catlin

While I'd like "Back-to-Basics". I admit I have a seascape that's been buzzing around my head for a while. :-)

I like New Beginnings. It would be cool to see some technical challenges in the future too though. Things like: "Make a colorful scene with ONLY the Bryce white material. All color has to come from lights. No picture gel allowed".

exactly my thinking... there hasn't been a 'pure Bryce' challenge since, I believe, last May ('Duel'). I've enjoyed the past few month's challenges, and the variety and quality of work they've produced, but I'm starting to itch for another 'pure' Bryce challenge. The terrain editor and DTE can do amazing stuff if one takes the time to work with them... and don't get me started on the incredible stuff that humorix (and others) do with multi-replicating. any more comments/suggestions before I make this official sometime in the next 12 hours or so (+/- 12hrs. ;)?

I'd like landscape or seascape, I don't exercise the skills needed for those much and it would be a nice change...

I was thinking THAT, too, zhann. Many use this "3D landscape software" for nothing but importing pre-modelled objects complete with UV mapped textures. Arrange it, light it, render it... without getting into some of the program's finer attributes. I'm guilty of that at times, myself. However, in a (somewhat wishy-washy, I confess) attempt to finally make up my mind without offending or leaving out anyone (B4 and earlier users, particularly), I went with the topic at the link above. (personally, the image for this challenge that has started forming itself in my head is at least part landscape, anyway)

and to Erlik, zhann and bikermouse, I'd love to see more landscapes and seascapes here in the forum where we can all discuss techniques used, etc., rather then just appearing in the gallery where you may or may not get a short 'how I did it' from the artist, and little chance of constructive feedback.
