Subject: Problems with Vicky 3

I just purchased Vickie 3, and now I wish I hadn't. I have both Poser 4 and 5. I'm pretty good with Poser 4, but I'm clueless with version 5. I can't use Vicky3 in P4, because I get 'can't load file' and 'out of memory' error messages. I was able to load her into Poser 4 the first time, and then Poser froze up when I tried to load the hi res texture map. Now she won't load into P4 at all. So I loaded her in P5, and I can't even find any of the dials for her mouth. There are dials for the head and both eyes and that's it. I don't know what happened to the bump maps, so her lips look like they are made out of plastic. I feel so stupid. They should have provided a manual with this model! Can anyone offer any suggestions? Linda B

I had the same problem with Poser 4. I deleted the blmilwom_v3.rsr file (I think it is that...I know it was an .rsr file) and now it seems to work fine. I don't know if that will work for you, though...but it might be worth trying. I can't help you with Poser 5. Hang in there, she's awesome!

Here's a few questions: 1) What exactly did you buy? Did you buy just Vicki 3, or did you also buy the head morphs and/or the body morphs packages. If you only bought the base figure, then you won't have many morphs. 2) What file did you load into Poser? There are 3 figures if everything installed properly: V3-blank, Vicki 3 to Vicki 2, and Victoria 3. V3-blank will not do much for you. Vicki 3 to Vicki 2 will allow you to load the head morphs, and you can use Vicki 2's clothing, but you can not load the body morphs. Victoria 3 is the full V3 figure. 3) After you loaded Vicki (let's assume Victoria 3), did you go to your Pose folder and load any morphs? If you didn't load the morphs, then you will not see them. They simply won't be there. All of the Pose folders start with "!V3 ...." Now, if you have P5, you can move those Pose folders, however, the AllMorph files will not work properly without extra effort. (If you need assistance on this, let me know. All it requires is a text editor, but it can be tedious.) My guess is that you missed one of the three steps above. If not, please give a step-by-step of what you did so we can try to help some more. Cheers!

Also check out what oak77 said, the same thing happened to me, I could load her in Poser 5 but not Poser 4, then I deleted the rsr from the geometries folder and volla all is now well with the world and Vic3

This is one street I've been down, I think. What oak77 said is true. This is what happened when you "blew" out of P4. It's one of the things you need to do to get back on track. So, go delete that file...don't worry, P4 will make you a new RSR file for it. NOW, after that, you will be able to load V3. On my PC, she's at the bottom, the one sitting pose. If you purchased the morphs, just let them lay there...that's not your problem. So, V3 is loaded and waiting for a sword (grin). Click on the Render Menu and choose Materials. Look lower left to see the bump map "pulldown". To the right of it, click the Load button and navigate your way to the folder I underlined in ORANGE. You will see 4 files there that need to be converted...I have circled (well, kinda) in magenta. You will note the sizes as displayed by Windows Commander and understand why people don't send them out. So, load each one of the JPG files and it will ask you to confirm conversion to BUM. Say YES and do all 4 files. Now, not sure this last part is necessary, but I exited P4 and started again. Loaded V3 and then HiRes maps and all was fine. Don't despair!

Thanks everyone for all your help! So far I've got the problem with the morphs solved, following Cresent's advice, and all the dails for morphing the face are there. I didn't have as much luck with the Poser 4 problem, though. I deleted the blmilwom_v3.rsr file. Then when I started Poser 4 up, something weird happened. Instead of opening with the default figure and default camera, it loaded with Victoria 3, with the head camera, exactly the way I left it when Poser 4 crashed the first time. I think P4 is corrupted now. I tried closing that pose and then starting a new scene with the default figure. Tried loading Vicky3 again and got the same error messages. Went back, deleted blmilwom_v3.rsr again, Poser then starts up with Vicky 3 as I left her the first time, viewed with the head cam. It seems frozen in time from the moment the system first crashed with Vicky 3, the defaults for opening the Pose room on start up appear to be corrupted, at least that's what I'm guessing. Then I tried going back and deleting blmilwom_v3.rsr again, but it isn't even there anymore. Maybe it is now time to try and understand the Ultra Confusing Materials Room (does anyone actually understand it????) in Poser 5, at least I can use her in Poser 5. What a mess. I'm beginning to think I will have to uninstall and reinstall Poser 4, unless anyone can suggest something else I can try to fix Poser4?? anyone??? thanks. Linda B

V3 shouldn't load automatically when you start Poser 4. Unless somehow you have set that as your starting preference. Try starting Poser 4 and if it's stable, click the Edit menu, then General preferences. Then choose "Launch to Factory State". Exit. Then start P4 again. It should show as it did out of the box. Then try loading V3 and follow instructions above. I don't think P4 is corrupted yet.

Solved! I feel pretty dumb about not thinking of 'Launch to Factory State' myself, but that solved the one problem. Then I reinstalled Vicky 3, and everything is fine! She is beautiful! Thanks so much everyone for your help. Linda B

I don't know much, Linda. It feels good to be able to help once in a while. Have fun now! Oh, and remember, lots of people here are glad to help...next time, though, it'll probably require someone other than me...LOL.
