Subject: Victoria 3 - Trouble, nothing but trouble

oliveramberg ( ) posted Wed, 08 January 2003 at 9:25 AM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 12:42 PM

Hi! I just purchased the Update vor V3. I have to say, that I am using the german Version and I had to copy all the files by hand. Anyway. Is it a fact that there are almost none of Head-parameters that can be set? I have the same amount of parameters like on the normal Poser-Head. No Smile, no nothing! The morphs that are included (poses) like part-lips etc. don't affect Victoria at all. Not a slight change of her face. What's wrong? Thank for hellping me! Cheers Oliver

Did you buy the morph packs as well? Without them, V3 is really nothing worth...

Oh oh, what a bad surprise...this business-policy is not really my taste... Thanks for your hint. Oliver

It's often debated if this is good or bad business policy. I guess for people on dial-up connections, the mere thought of downloading the more than 70Mb of V3 in one go would be enought to make them run away screaming. Also this new morph injection thingie is said to be beneficial to people with slower machines, as you wouldn't need to load for instance all the ethnical morphs if all you wanted was to create a fairy. Personally, I loaded all the morphs, both face and body and saved that as a new figure. I rarely know what I'll make when I start loading a model, I usually let it build a life of it's own so to speak and then let the model decide whether this is a fantasy- sci-fi or "regular" type image :o)But that's just me... Also this new way of supplying morphs will allow Daz to release specific morph packs, I know they're working on a male one, and probably a fairy/fantasy one as well. Would make sense. But will also make the model more expensive in the long run G

But the included morphs should work anyway?

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 08 January 2003 at 9:38 AM

Sure, but there's hardly any morphs included in the base V3 afaik.

It's a bit like selling a car with no wheels, and selling the wheels separately. Not impossible, as long as the customer knows he has to buy some wheels as well before it will run.

MadYuri ( ) posted Wed, 08 January 2003 at 10:19 AM

V3 has the folders '!Daz' and 'Pose' hard coded in the morph injection files. The folders of the german version are different, so you have two options: - edit the path in all files, or - copy (not move) the morph injection files. In the second case the files in the german folders call the files in the hardcoded english folders and everything should work.

"as long as the customer knows he has to buy some wheels as well before it will run. " Well in this case the buyer does know - DAZ has made it clear that the injector poses were sold seperately. Frankly I like the injector poses - I'm on dial-up and if I'd had to download the entire package in one shot I'd have gone insane lol Frankly I also appreciate the ability to pick and choose what morphs to load. Just my .02

As for the morphs you showed. Add them to the head (inject them) and then you still have to adjust the dial setting for each morph. It will not automatically apply.

You are right that they wrote tons of things. But as a german speaking guy I just didn't get all the details. And to be honest, I didn't expectet to get less than with V2 with the basic version. Now I bought all the rest that's required and everthing works out well. Thanks for all of your help! Oliver

On an off note (even tho I'm totally satisfied with V3 and didn't mind paying for the morphs separately), I wish they'd give at least one morph pack as a freebie. I was kinda disappointed that the bikini wasn't free (as it was for Vic 1). :o( Laurie

Same here, like they did with the character pack when V2 was released.

My main gripe is that it takes way too long to inject all the morphs.... I think Daz should have sold a fully loaded version.... A car with tires, and engine, even a CD player J .... Since I purchased everything anyway it would have been so much better to have it all already assembled. V3 is very cool but a huge waste of time.... I have barely had a chance to pose her yet because it takes so long to inject the morphs.... Some said that it is faster to inject the morphs in P4 so I tried that to speed up the process but the dial cleaner thing does not work if I do that, then I am stuck with 3000 extra morph slots...... Frustrating because I am inpatient. It would have been so much better to give options Fully loaded or assembly required. My opinion --- Christian

Load all the morphs and save the character to the Library. Then you have a fully loaded Vicki 3 to use as you need.

$$$$ for one posable mesh + $$$$ for a morph pack for the face + $$$$ for a morph pack for the body + $$$$ for body textures + $$$$ for face textures + $$$$ for hair + $$$$ for conforming clothes = YOU'RE BETTER OFF BUYING P5! Do the math. It's cheaper and you can do a hell of a lot more with it.

herr67 ( ) posted Wed, 08 January 2003 at 9:09 PM

Oliver, if you bought all three parts, V3 + V3 BodyMorphs + V3 Head Morphs you could save $10. If you ask nicely mabey DAZ will give you a $10 discount.

pendarian ( ) posted Thu, 09 January 2003 at 12:41 AM

Well, she is still cheaper then when V2 came out...and with all of the morphs I think much easier to work with. She looks good right out of the box actually...and even with V2 you still had to buy textures, hair and clothing, so that doesn't even enter into the equation....You get to pick and choose what you want to load her up with, the mesh is better period. I think Daz did well with her, no she's not perfect but she's getting there. Not to mention she's way less buggy then P5 from the get go...all in all, so far I've been pleased with her. The only gripe that I have is that given the clothing modelers will need to learn about ERC it may take some time before we see a fair amount of clothing or even any clothing being ported over from V2 for her. So, I'll probably be using V3toV2 or trying to get that dang Tailor program to work better then it is right now for me. But I do have to agree that it would have been nice if one piece of clothing would have come with her or be given away for free.... Pendy

I loaded all morphs and saved the character. . . HOWEVER, when I goto load that character I only get a handful o fthe morphs. Did this three times and not once will my save load everything. . . Thoughts?
