I think As Shanim's Gothic Prison is a beautiful prop. It's well made and well textured, and it looks really good. I also really like The Sisters of Mercy. I'd go so far as to say they may be my favourite band. I've also walked out of a goth club because the DJ seemed to think that every other song shold be a Sisters of Mercy song. So, again, I think As Shanim's Gothic Prison is a beautiful prop, though I must also say I will probably never use it, because millions of people already have used it. It's overplayed. No offence, As Shanim. It's still great. That's part of why it's overplayed, the other part being that it has no competition. Anyway, this is Free Stuff, so it's not like I'm edging in on your money making turf, right? B^) Anyway, I was thinking about this, and why, and it seemed pretty obvious that there's not a lot in the way of really nicely made Brom-esque set props out there to stick behind people. So I'm going to try to fix that, and this item, in Fre Stuff, is the first attempt at that. I'm also going to, at some point soon, rebuild my Renaissance Window using skills I have gained since then, rebuilding it from scratch, making it posable, and making it not have the weird streak on render that it has that wasn't able to figure outbefore, but I know now why it does it and how to fix it. But for now, based on the Brom painting *Lonestalker*, I present my Industrial Portal. More will happen soon, though that trip is also pending (My wife went with Ruggdlilfox (the subject of my most recent 2D gallery piece) to see some friends in Delaware who are selling a nice, functional, working Ford utility van (Ford is good for driving over Wyoming in the cold, they run hot), so it's looking very close. I'm even getting things in boxes already.

Excellent!! Very useful. And nice to meet a Sisters fan :o) How about Fields of the Nephilim, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Mission.... not necessarily all Goth, but related. Just the other day I hauled out some old records and had loads of fun - Dalis Car, Dead Can Dance, Siouxsie Sioux... Man, there's so much good music just lying around, nice to NOT hear Eminem, Little Kim and Brandy once in a while! : Fish

FishNose, thanks! (Did you realise that with a Kiwi accent, your name would be pronounced 'FushKnees'? Sorry, my brain just wandered L) Um, those bands would pretty much all be defniitely goth, I think. Can't think of what else they'd be B^) FoN is okay, the Mission UK basically is SoM. I'm a big Bauhaus fan, and I like some Joy Division but his voice annoys me. I like Current 93 a lot, partially because it's so weird. Personally,i think it's nice not to hear eminem ever L

I almost forgot to mention... 478 polys. No, I didn't miss a number. 60.2kb OBJ 478 polys 746 vertices. 3 materials. You can use dozens of these in a scene if you really want to, and it won't hurt.

FushKnees, hey? ROFL! So you're a Kiwi are ya? Well, I'm Southern side too, a South African originally..... but living in Sweden now, which is about as different as it possibly could be! A couple of weeks ago I heard it was 39 deg C in Cape Town, and -22 deg C here at the same time. Ouch. All my old mates are on the bloody beach! I almost grew up on the beach. :] BeachFish

cool! thanks, dodger, and you're absolutely right. the gothic prison (and related sets) are fantastic, and over-used, and there's really nothing else out there TO use.

I just felt like making an observation here. I think this is a great thing to do. It is so nice to see someone be unhappy about something and instead of just complaining about it, they put some thought into it, and actually offer a solution to their own problem. I think too many people would prefer to just complain about the overuse of some item or another. Instead you thought about WHY that might be happening and then attempted to offer an alternative for people. I wish more people dealt with their problems this way. I think there is way too much tendency in the world today for people to try and blame others for their problems. No one wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore. Perhaps this is just an American perspective, but it would be so refreshing to have more people accept responsibility for their world and take action to improve it instead of running around blaming everyone else and wondering who they can sue over their troubles. Sorry for that rant but I think this is one of the larger problems with society today. And I'm very happy to see someone being proactive in making an effort to improve their community. Even if it is "only" an on-line community. Bottom line: Thanks dodger. Frank

Cudo's to you Dodger I'm looking forward to posing a naked vicky with massive gravity defying breasts touting only a helmet and sword in front of your background. LOL! Seriously thanx for the cool prop and even more thanx for the tip towards a REALLY cool artist. This Brom guy totally rocks! The way he paints textures alone! I'm totally in love! thanx again Jon

Cool stuff, _dodger! Thank you. By the way, Sisters are/were a great band, but not a patch on the mighty Killing Joke. :)

FK: I'm not a Kiwi, right now I'm an adopted Aussie expatriate in America, actually. As any sort of Aussie, though, it's in my contract to poke fun at the Kiwi accent. Bloodsong: Thanks (I can't do that appreviation thing to your name, it'd be offencive) FrankJann: I agre totally, and no worries. B^) Nu-be: all the things we ever needed, I don't need them now. All the things we ever did were always confidential and hidden from me anyhow. Spratman: Of course, and no worries again. Brom is one of my faves. Mayhaps we can get some NVIAICwB* pics going. * Nude Vicki In an Abandoned Industrial Complex with a Blaster

Sam: no worries. Hmm, Killing Joke versus the Sisters of Mercy... that'd be a celebrity deathmatch!

MachineClaw ( ) posted Wed, 08 January 2003 at 1:06 PM

Eldrich wouldn't show up for the deathmatch :P Thanks for the prop, always need more gothic, cyber, different stuff, this fits nicely. psssst, Mission are better than Sisters hahaha!

Thanks for the great prop! I don't do naked Vickies but I come pretty close. =o) I agree this is a much better alternative to complaining, kudos for that! Any chance I can get a text document Read Me for the Fireball? The one included just says "file" and I cannot open it with any of my programs. I'd really like to learn how to make some of my own effects with this most excellent prop. Thanks!

_dodger ( ) posted Wed, 08 January 2003 at 2:22 PM

MachineClaw: Of course he wouldn't. It would be far too gothic. FlyByNight: In notepad, go to File->Open and on the filetype pull down, select All Files (.). This will let you open the README despite the lack of a . in the filename. It's plain text.

You're a sweetheart, that worked just fine! Thanks.
